My son's model
Posted by Dubau on Monday, June 5, 2006 12:20 PM

Here is the start of my son's model that he is working on now. He is 13 and this model is the 1st that he is not just throwing it together and slapping some paint on it. He is taking his time and painting all the parts. I told him if he did it this way that I would post photos up here for him. So here we go, he's work in progress........

I will post more as he builds more.

It's good to see that you have some good influence on your son and it looks mighty fine. Let's see the rest from start to finish.

I'm also doing my best to lure my son into the modeling world, to be honest it was more like he nagged and nagged to get started on his own models. So it was just for dad to pic something from the pile for him to get started on. The truck he bought for his own saved money.

He took a third prize in the junior class a couple of weeks ago with his second build ever and he is only getting five years old this summer. He had a hard time putting the trofe and wheel-set down for the rest of the day.

It's a bit wrong to say he built it himself as he's more intressted in painting and cliping off the bits and pieces from the sprues. On occasion he glues some parts on but he enjoys the paint bit most in his projects.

Give my best to your son!

Niclas

That's cool. please tell you son WTG, he " and you " did a GREAT job on that model.  I think I started building models at about the age of 5 and I know that's about the time I got my son into it too.

I wish there were a model club near me so my son and I could join.

I will be posting more pics soon of he's model.

Thanks :)

Long ago, there was a club for youngsters called Wheels and Wings.
Kids got a snap kit and some of those cards that fit in a note book telling about different cars and airplanes.
Cost about $9 a month, and designed for kids 5-12 years old. The kits got a bit tougher as kids got older.
By the time he was 12 he was getting  some pretty decent kits!
Needless to say the club is gone now, but it really got him, and his buddies interested in models.
The toughest thing to do is LET THEM DO IT! If they want a purple F14, suck it up and let them do it!
Likewise if they ask for help be there and help.

Don

I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

That is how my brother and I got into modeling!  Wheels and Wings was "totally rad!"  (Of course my father had alittle to do with catching plastic fever. ) You would get some info and pics for your three ring binder of spaceships and motorcycles and ferraris and fighter planes and ...  I'm surprised anyone in hear ever heard of it.  I'm fairly young compared to most.

I'm glad you guys are helping keep this alive.  Just remember that if the seed is not planted well, the passion fades with age... say... around puberty.  Modelling really helps with developing a childs attention span, following instructions, hand-eye skills, and spacial orientation.  Abstract thinking and hard science skill improve as well.  It's way better than XBOX.

Purple F14, Green, pink, red, blue you name it my son did it, that's why I am posting his pics up here now to show him that if you do it well other people will enjoy it too. NOT saying his Blue and Red plain was not good, hehhehe.

I am very happy that I see some of you getting your kids into the hobby.  And as for Yann Solo thats GREAT to hear, just look out when he start painting the walls. LOL.

I don't know when "Wheels and Wings " was around, I am 41 and I never hurd of it. To bad it is not around anymore for the kids.

Have a GREAT day all

This is not a good job ... this is an awesome job.  He is building and painting carefully!  That's great.  Maybe a matt finish on interior parts would add realism, specially the seat belts.  Keep posting.

That's going to look great when finished!

Came to think about some pics I snapped on another Monster truck a couple of years ago. Not the Digger, but maybe useful anyway?

that's quite a nice model, especially for such a young age. i think the earliest experience i had with modelling was a dinosaur, which i spray painted gold, still one of my favorites, i'd say. 5 years old sounds just about right. and i def. will introduce it to my kids when ihave them, whether it takes or not, whatever.

Modeling for a young kid I think is a GREAT idea, give them something to do and if the Dad builds too, it's GREAT for Dad and Son to work together :)

Even though my son says " DAD ! Don't touch my model, you might brake it " LOL I remember saying that too.....

1st off, I would like to apologize to all thr Daughters, Mothers, Wifes, Sisters out there. Girls DO build models. My daughter and I built some models together too. here is a pic of that Loveable Bug Herbie we did. As you can see in the pic she also has a Jonny Lighting Herbie too and a LOT of other Herbie things to go along with that.  So YES Dads, Moms and Sons and Daughters, Wifes and Sisters. All have fun building together :)

Keep up the posts, would like to see other pics of your kids models

Bud

P.S. For the past 6 months now my daughter wants the REAL Herbie car, " Dad can you get it for me "   LOL

It's been a long time now, how's the build?  Did he lost interest?  Maybe he needs some encouragement?  Come on ... some pictures.
