Endurance Race GB 2008
Posted by williamsfw28 on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 9:58 AM

Well the if its been raced GB is coming to an end so I was thinking that we might start a new racing themed GB for 2008?

    Endurance Race GB 2008.

  The rules would be simple.

The car, truck and or motorcycle has to have been raced in an endurance type of race say twelve hours or more. Races like Le Mans, Sebring, Daytona or even The Paris to Dakar rally???? these are some of the races and Im sure theres more out there.

   So who's in???

I've got a few projects going on right now, but with the long build dates I could probably sneak a car into my project list.Cowboy [C):-)]

Sad they couldnt race it I know someone that was part of the American team that was going to race.Censored [censored]......they were pretty upset they didnt get to race

Can only imagine they lost a lot of money - race being cancelled that late... Which American team - the Robby Gordon outfit? Or weren't they coming again this year? Can only imagine, bar the financial aspect, how peeved they must've been. All the preparations... Wonder if it will still be the same feel if they move it to South America. Btw, slightly o/t, did you read Rcae to Dakar by Charlie Bohrman yet?

PMA = Province Miniature Automobiles - they do 1:43rd. First kit I have from them. Having only completed two 43rd's, I'll pass on this one for the time being, but it looks an awesome little model. Next in my 43rd attempts might well be the Hornish 2002 Panther racing IRL car - allways liked that scheme!

I believe he is part of the Gordon team. I dont know him very well he good friends with my best friend. Friend through a friend you might say.  The Gordon team was fielding to Hummers for the 2008 race.

Im not ready for 43rd yet but in time there are a few kits I'd like to have.

Question??  I was looking at a trans kit to build a 911 GT3 LM but cant figure out witch is the doner kit..  any ideas??

Okay, I'm in with Tamiya's Nissan R390 GT1. It was entered in the 1997 Le Mans, apparently the team did not do to well though. Never the less it's a nice little car. Now, I probably will not start until mid summer, I've got a few other projects to start and finish.Cowboy [C):-)]

Thanks..The DBR9 is a nifty looking car.  I would have left the Red Bull B team car up but Scott Speed was booted from the team ( Raw Deal if you ask me) because Burger didnt like the kid (well thats what I think anyways).

Maybe I'll be in too. And I do have some 43rd Dakar kits somewhere too. It might get me enthused again!

I'd be interested I've been wanting to build James Garners '68 Vette from Daytona.
When in doubt just build it. Mark http://www.ipmslivonia.org/ipms/

I am definitely in on this one! the hard part will be picking what to build. I've got a bunch of candidates in my stash but I'm leaning towards my Historic Miniatures 1/24 Cobra Daytona or one of the Le Mans Miniatures GT40's.

A suggestion: How about making the deadline June 14 or 15, the date for the Le Mans 24hrs?

June of this year??? I can tell you I would not be able to get my DBR 9 done by then. Just looking at the kit Im finding fit problems

What about launching it on that date ??? But if everyone want a short group build i guess we can try ......what do you guys think???

Oops! I meant June 2009, sorry for the confusion! I suppose Le Mans 2009 would be a slightly different date, but that was my intent.

I was hoping you were thinking 2009

End date would be the Start of the 2009 LeMans race that would give everyone plenty of time to get a project done

Looks good kenjitak.  However, the final decision belongs to the GB leader/organizer.  And I've gotten out of the habit of collecting badges.  Getting lazy in my old age.

If I may offer up a suggestion, it would be interesting to post as much historic information about our build subject,i.e., team history, info about the vehicle, races run in and results-when we submit our final pics.

Bob thats a great idea....

I was thinking after the suggestion was made to end this GB on the LeMans race in 2009 Im thinking we should also start the GB on June 14th 2008.

Question for all??? WRC is in its own way is a type of endurance racing SOOOO should it be allowed in??

I like the badge but could we try it with a newer car?

Okay, here's a combo GB. You can't get any newer than this one! The Gulf DBR9 is about as new as there is, and it's also the 40th anniversary of the first Gulf-sponsored Le Mans win. So what do you think of this one?

kenjitak-Even better badge, imho-old (well, I don't consider it old Wink [;)]) and new.  Best of both.

williams28-As far as WRC/rally cars-I agree, it is an endurance race in its own right. However, it is broken into days & stages, with repairs allowed after the day.  Dunno...I won't say no but I would rather see a Rally GB later.  Just my thoughts My 2 cents [2c].
