Mike, we're not an exclusive club! We're here to relax, hang out and enjoy the hobby and ee learn from each other as we go along. So feel free at any stage to join in, the more the merrier! Well, that's my feelings, anyway. Looks like you're off to a good start there!

Hey Dustin, sorry to hear. Best of luck - hope you get things sorted. And best wishes esp. with the kids.

Does it have to be unstarted to join in???? I have a 12hrs of Sebring Corvette C6R from 2007 that's only about 20% complete at the most... None of the chassis is built yet, the wheels are just slid under the shell. Here's some pics in case you need them to decide on weather to let me in or not....

The long-awaited reintroduction of Aston Martin to Le Mans was a truly stunning car - the DBR9. On June 18-19 2005, the DBR9 is the first Aston Martin to compete at Le Mans for 16 years.

For most of the race they battled with the Corvettes at the front of GT1 class. With 22 hours gone, both cars hit trouble. Car 58 first had fuel problems (is rumoured to have run out of fuel...) Car 59 started having serious cooling problems shortly after that. The car was taken into the pits and only reappeared to complete a final lap just before 4.00pm on the Sunday. Despite being off the track for an hour and a half, car 59 completes 333 laps to finish 9th overall and 3rd in the GT1 class.

I will be doing car 59 - not only because of this succes, but also because... well, it was the first one of the two I saw and the yellow trimming just stood out so much that the 58 looked bland after that! And it's just the way I remember the car. Dustin allready posted pics of the kit - ours will be very similar, both doing the Model Factory Hiro kit of the cars, mine 2005 and his 2007.

Progress: Started yesterday and did some very loose fitting of some cockpit elements. All fits looked nice. Wanted to do a full mock build-up of the roll cage. Thusfar only managed one of the crossbeams after doing some test-fitting. Soon found that this may turn out to be the hardest part of the build! With the WM parts having been bend somewhat (special thanks to all postal employees involved!) and the holes never being the right size, it took some doing to position the side cages correctly, I then added the top Z-bar... and decided to do it with CA! With a bugger that, I'm not re-building this whole thing if it's not needed, the decision was made. Hopefull I can insert the other two X-beams from below. The only part CA'ed was the top Z-bar to the two side bars, they were themselves just placed in the correct holes and the whole cage as is can be removed and worked on from below. That's the theory... Whistling [:-^]

Kenjitak - those are two awesome-looking cars! Looking forward to seeing them get built!

I will get my entry in this weekend, but first I need O/T help! Dustin, I posted this in the MotoGP GB as well, but no answer yet. You're also building the Kawasakie, so can you maybe help? In applying decals, I have cut the number away from above one decal - can you please tell me what the decal number is to save me from guessing! It's a small rectangular black piece, right at the bottom of the sheet, ext to the no 15 decal - think it's to the left. Would appreciate it!

I've decided I'm in on this with a 1/24 Historic Racing Miniatures Cobra Daytona Coupe.

The Cobra Daytona Coupe was developed by Pete Brock in less than 90 days and nearly won the 1964 FIA World Manufacturer's Championship. In 1965, the Cobra Daytona coupe succeeded and Shelby American became the first US manufacturer to win the FIA World Manufacturer's Championship.

I may also do a second build, either a 1/24 Thunder Valley conversion of a Fujimi 68-69 Gulf GT40 or the 1/24 Le Mans Miniatures 68-69  Gulf GT40.

In 1968, Ford pulled out of endurance racing after winning Le Mans in 66 and 67 with the 427 Mk II's and Mark IV's when new rules eliminated the 427's from competition in favor of smaller cars. However, the original Mark I GT40 was still eligible to race since it had a smaller 5 liter engine and sufficient numbers had been built. Equipped with Gurney-Weslake heads on a 5 liter Ford small block, the Gulf blue and orange GT40's proved to be competitive afterall, so competitive that the same car, chassis #1075, won Le Mans in 1968 and again in 1969; becoming the first car (and maybe the only one?) to win Le Mans 2 years in a row! The original Mark I which had never won at Le Mans got a another chance and made the most of it!

I think we should move this to the GB section. Here, we're preaching to the choir. If we move over there we may reach some of those hard-core air-armor-sea guys who might click on a car GB by accident!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Count me in on this build for sure. Just need to decide what to build.

Thanks for the info SeaBee. I was thinking of MM as a manufacturer instead of a kit type, brain was kind of tired.

Stephen - MM kits is multimedia kits. Resin, metal and photo-etched parts instead of plastic. Most popular makes are Studio 27 and Model Factory Hiro, with Tameo being most popular on the 43rd scale. You get them at most online hobby shops. Your wallet hates it.

Dustin - will help out whereever I can. Don't know what is involved, but just shout! You've done a great job in getting us started! Let me know, will pitch in anytime.

Dustin,

I'm going to enter with the Nissan R390 GT1, by Tamiya. Out of the three that entered the '97 Le mans 2 did not finish. The third car, No. 23,  finished a "respectible" 12 place over-all.

Along side of this I may attempt to build the Corvette C6-R winner of the 2005 Le mans GT-1.

I'll post pictures and try to get more info as we go along.

Quick question, What are MM kits and where do you find them?

Dustin, are we keeping it here or are you going to move it to the GB section?

While we're talking - off this topic - but are you decalling the Kawasaki yet? I've just found they've outdone themselves on the decal sheets. The one I had previously that was this hard to move, was the Stoner RC211V. However, a quick heads-up that you will really struggle to get the decals off from the backing sheet unless the water is quite hot. Once off, they are stunning! Maybe it's just my sheet - but just to take note...

Ok I guess Ill start this off. Were five days away from the start of that GB and it looks like its going to be a smaller build but thats ok. Autos just don't seem to have as big a following as Armor and Planes but that ok also.

The car that Im interring in this GB is Model Factory Hiro's 2007 DBR9. This is a MM kit and is going to be my real first a temp at a kit like this.

For the first time since 1959, Aston Martin has triumphed at Le Mans. The winning Aston Martin Racing with InterContinental Hotels & Resorts DBR9 numbered 009 was driven to GT1 class victory and a remarkable fifth overall by David Brabham, Rickard Rydell and Darren Turner after 24 hours of non-stop competition, characterised by changeable conditions and several safety car periodsThe bad weather was in evidence right from the start of the first qualifying session, where the AMR Larbre Competition 008 DBR9 claimed pole position before going on to finish third in the actual race. Three of the top four spots were claimed by Aston Martin and if it had not been for two off's by the 007 car the DBR9's would have swept the GT1 classPhotobucket

Dr.................the C9 raced in 87,88,89 LeMans so its in as for the moto bike I think that one would fit better in the WRC/Rally GB however it seems like the Paris to Dakar Rally is a N-B tweener so lets see what the group thinks??

Kenjitak... I like your thinking! How about we get this one started soonish (everybody can start when they get around to it) and finish it at LM '09...?

Mark - with medical technology nowayday, I won't be surprised if he's back earlier rather than later. Though he's such an asset to any team, I'm sure they won't rush him.

Uhh, just because I suggested Le Mans dates for the end date doesn't necessarily mean we have to wait for this year's Le Mans for the start date, does it?

Now THAT's taking me back to our previous Rally GB, Mark! Spending some time talking rugby and cricket! Wink [;)] TBH, I am not a Bulls fan. I "hate" to admit it, but I cheer for the Stormers. Think the Bulls have ust been very slow to adapt to the ELV's and they've missed the locks (Bakkies and "Big Vic"). Crusaders... man, they are looking absolutely awesome! They are the form team and it will be a travesty if they don't win the S14, unless something horrible (other than Carter's injury) happens in the 2nd half of the competition. How is Carter, btw - I have somehow missed details of his injury and how long he'll be out for. Yes, winter is upon us...

Except as you move into summer we're moving into autumn after the best summer in 10 years - no wind - (but with winter cricket finishes and rugby becomes more important - hey Seabee what's up with the Bulls, at least the Crusaders are in their usual place!). Our summer was ideal for spray painting (as I have to do it out doors) but she-who-must-be-obeyed decided she wanted to sell the house so most of the good weather lost in the pursuit of domestic bliss!!. If I don't get some bodies painted soon then I won't be doing much over winter. I'm going to have to get the 2 Group C bodies painted before June otherwise I'll have to wait until October or later before I get underway.

Sea,

Thats is funny Ive just started the the Ninja but the funny thing is Ive had that special paint for weeks just because its a LIMITED edition paint but limited for years Im sure. The first problem I found DBR was the vents above the front tires seem to be way off and will have to be modified so they fit also the roll cage seems to be miss alined but Im sure these thing can and will be overcome. You know it could be the fact that I have limited time on MM kits. The vents on my 2007 are different the yours on the 2005 so you might not have the same problems. We shall see?????

Bob Im sure it going to be a long build when it comes to any WRC or Rally car GB. Heck summers on the way and Im sure alot of us are going to be happy to see the sun again I know I cant wait.

Assuming that I can finish up some current GB committments, I would be in for a Rally GB-if it were a long time frame end date.  Also, would an older (1973 Datsun 240z-South Africa rally) qualify since it is 'pre-WRC'?

Get off it! Not only do we take aim at the DBR9 at the same time, but I too am busy with the Kawasaki!

I've only taken the DBR9 box out - what fit problems did you pick up thusfar. Also believe it will be very close to the same thing, just the odd cosmetical change. Well, if yours have fit problem, I will believe mine, having been the first in the range, can potentially be problematic. Which would be strange after the good things I've heard of recent MFH kits.

What do you have incoming for the WRC GB?

Sea,

Im sure the two kits build the same? I haven't started mine but was tinkering with it and found some fit problems. Nothing is easy I guess so Im sure this kits going to take me some time. Im also working on the Ninja ZX RR right now. Plus I just ordered a Rally car because it seems like a WRC GB is something some of us would also jump at.

Dustin, I am almost about to start. But been thinking - at my current building speed (I will "borrow" the term glacial from somebody...) I doubt whether I would have done much by mid-June - maybe just a light pre-build to see what gives! So most likely this will only start proper at that time anyways. Have the "original" - the 2005 Le Mans version.

Very nice revised emblem kenjitak.

Yes make the WRC a seperate GB - we had one a couple of years ago I think. Perhaps have both running together?

Bob I agree with you about WRC I guess I just didnt want anyone to be left out. WRC GB is a great idea.

Well if you guys do start a rally GB, I could be interested in that. I've never been one for building race cars but I recently got an urge to build rally cars. I've got an Alpine 1600SC about halfway done and a stack of others waiting to go.
