1:87 SCRATCH BUILT BOATYARD CRADLE
Posted by RI SCRATCH BUILDER on Thursday, May 2, 2013 8:45 AM

Here is a 1:87 boat yard cradle I built for a friend's HO layout. It is typical of cradles seen in boat yards all over New England. I modeled this one from a cradle that was in use in a boatyard in Jamestown, R.I.

It's really sad when the only model tool you own is a box cutter.

Your work is always inspiring!

May I ask what you used for the pulley cable? It's got great texture.

Greg, The cable is braided nylon 20 lb. test casting line. I use it to rig all of my 1:50 scale construction cranes. It does not kink when it is reeved onto pulleys.

very fine details.

Is the 'wood' really wood or styrene. I can't tell because it's built so well

SprueOne The cradle is made from basswood. It is entirely pinned together. No Glue.

That is damned impressive.   Yes
