Hey Gents, My interest in joining up in your GB has grown immensely. I have some choice candidates but, I have one in particular. You see, I have one single model in my large stash that I desparately wish to build. It is the Pro Modeler/Monogram 1/48 PBY-1A Catalina. This has been in my stash for years. In the 7 yrs. I've been back to modeling I have been purposely honing my skills to where I'd feel comfortable tackling this critter. My father flew the PBY during the war as a flight instructor and he loved that plane. When this kit came out I bought it excitedly to build for my dad at some point. Unfortunately, my father passed away suddenly before I was ever able to build it. I feel that this the opportunity to pull it down and get with it. I am faced with a glaring issue; where in the world am I going to display this huge model? This may require negotiations with "She who holds all power" as to acquire space in the living area. Lol. My other trepidation I have is that I'm not blessed with copious amounts of bench time and I fear that it may take me more than a year to build as this is not an OOB build. So, in short, I'm hoping.

In the event the PBY project does not seem feasible at this time, I also have a Revell (Matchbox repop) 1/72 Heinkel He 115 w/AM goodies than I'm anxious to build.

By all means, jump in and "gittr done"! Your father would be very appreciative and the Domestic Goddess will give approval I'm sure.

I'm sorry but what's a cross over? I'm old these new terms

NP Crown,

A crossover is a build you are working on in another group build.

I too was thinking about adding in Helos. My idea here is air birds that can land on water. So a floating Helo fits. Works for me. Perhaps we should post a feeler over in the Helo forums and add in pontoons or floating helos.

As far as badges, I have some ideas but not alot of skill at design. So we can discuss that as well.

I've got a few possibilities. Maybe the Martin Marlin.

i am not ready to commit BUT...

i have a number of float planes and sea planes (including the really old SEAMASTER jet) and there was a GB a couple years ago i never got into. i do have an OTS CH-46 USMC helo. they don't have floats but they fo float, at least as well as anything that old can. if that doesn't work no big deal. i also have an iralian one i have been starring at for a while.

PS i can do a badge if you have some ideas.

Didn't realize it got discontinued as it seems. I bought mine for $34. I missed out on the ROG FW190D and 109K, both ex-Hasegawas.

There is an A kit on Evil bay for $75 US and it's in Canada. I think the B may have to be the one I pick for half the price at Sprue Bros. BK

I did find one of the older A kits on Amazon, but that was a bit pricey. Just a few pennies short of £200.

Hmm, I think I'll look into that. I've always liked the Arado for some reason. Thanks, BK

BK

I HIGHLY recommend the 1/32 ROG Arado. I built it a couple of years back and it is a real pleasure to work with. Even as an OOB build, it's still exceptional.

The original kit does seem to be a bit ytricky to get hold of at the minute. I would like to get one to go on the launcher from HPH. But there is the newer B kit.

I'll echo Don here, Are flying boats eligible?

I don't want to step on BrandonK's toes here, but my understanding of his idea in collaboration with me last starting year, and again yesterday is yes. He would allow anything that both fly’s and floats, including amphibious, any era, any country, civil or military.

If it's a plane and can land on water, then it's in. Boats, floats, conversions, whatever.

I was considering the Loire 130M, but the kit doesn't include an engine, WHAT?! So, I'm leaning toward a PBY possibly, but I'm still looking for something special. Maybe an Arado 196 or He 115. Tons of possibilities.
