Nichimo 1/20 Cessna 172

Wow - very cool.  Interesting way to build an engine.

Ha ha!  I built a 1/6 scale Continental 65 that way for an R/C project.  But then I cheated and made a mold from the first completed cylinder and cast the rest.

This should be fun. I have some time in 172's so I'd be interested in this kit too.

I just went up in a Skyhawk SP a couple of weeks ago. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially for it having been my first time being at the controls.

I envy you. I'm hoping to try to go back in the spring and see if I can get my Private. I tried about 25 years ago but marrisg and family took priority. Did get time in an L4 Cub and a Beechcraft Baron though. 

Anyway... Just about done with the engine. I’ll run a little more wiring, plus the panels that I assume are for noise reduction??  I don’t see them in the parts so the ones I’ve seen people do must me from scratch. Doesn’t look too complicated. 

Would love to find a kit, but the prices on Ebay scare me!

That powerplant is really something.

Having never heard of Nichimo, I must say I'd sure like to have one of these. But like Don, from a little bit of searching, isn't going to happen.

Hi Chris! WOWOWOWOW! This is AMAZING! I have always loved this kit. And you're off to a great start! Absolutely incredible engine work...really admire your attention to the details on the engine and in the cockpit. Keep up the great work...its going to be really fine. 

Getting there. I need to add belts to the rear seat and I’m going to toss some bags into the rear area instead if the seat. I’m not sure if I have enough weight but I’ll be able to add more through the door after I close it up. 

Fuselage closed up. Alignment was tough and did require filler for the seam on top and bottom, but it came out okay. Engine and firewall mounted along with the instrument panel. Working on the slightly warped main wings now. Getting close.

  I have been Nominated to the position of President of our Model Rail Club and Museum Directorship. I understand Election will be Tomorrow Night, but I was told today it's a necessary Formality. ( Robert"s Rules of order, ya know )

Back home for a few days before taking a short vacation. Got the mains on, main wing is drying. Hoping to get a lot done tomorrow. Nose weight is going to be really close. Once the wing is on I should be able to figure out how much more is needed. One pic tonight, more tomorrow.

A well designed model!

After weeks of work travel and some family medical (all good now) issues to deal with, I can finally get back to it. Decals are on, wings on. I did minor damage to a couple decals but I’ll just mix a little paint and take a fine tip brush to it. Easy fix. Just control surfaces, prop, rear windows and front windscreen and we’ll be done. 

It looks just like a 172.  Very nice!

Okay, all done. It’s not totally accurate as it’s a 70’s Model 172 but I used a paint scheme using Arctic Decals of an updated 172 that looks to be currently in a hanger somewhere in Japan, based on the N number. So please pardon my low skill level with a complicated kit.

Please...your skills in completing THIS complicated kit are way way beyond most of ours!! Congratulations! You have a wonderful build that you should be very prooud of. Looks beautiful.
