***UPDATE***

I made a little progress yesterday, but didn't have the time to post it. Pretty much the only things I've got left to do on this one are to make the chin straps and the NVG mount for the helmet. After that it's going to the booth.

Here's what I got for updates....

I trimmed all the chin strapping off the head ... and cut the living crap out of my thumb ... that was awesome BTW. I made the cap out of a resin bill and mighty putty, added a rear strap from styrene, and gave the guy mighty putty burns and hair.

Here are the putty "pads" for the helment. Took a bit to get it drilled out, but the pads were a sinch to make. Now all I've got left are the chin straps and the NVG mount.

I stayed up WAY too late to be doing this crud. So I probably won't see the straps or mount done either today or tomorrow ... plus the wife has the days off! But we'll see if I can sneak in some bench time ......

Enjoy .... and as always, comments welcome.

If you're printing out your own decals for a 1/35 figure, the paper's thickness should be plenty to give the patch some depth. You shouldn't need to add any sheet to it.

Oh! Well if you think it's easy- I'll buy that! Good luck- looking forward to the pics Big Smile [:D]

And thanks for the tip on patches- not sure if I can pull it off at 1/35 but will look into it.

I don't think that my changes are going to be all that tough to pull off. I've got a resin copy of a patrol cap, that I'm going to try and file down to a ball cap style. If that doesn't turn out the way I want, I'm just going to use the bill from it and then use some of the mighty putty. As far as patches and things, I've found that printing them off at home and using a thin piece of sheet to give it some depth really works well. The only other thing for that is to make sure that you fold some of the paper around the edges so that you don't see them.

As far as the helmet padding and chin straps ... that's going to be WAY too easy. I'm just going to drill it out IOT form the inside, and then use little putty "pads" to fill the inside. The straps will be made from masking tape and I'm going to try and salvage the buckle from the face ... that's the only part that bothers me. Otherwise, I'll just use some extra PE pieces that I have.

Hopefully, I'll have some more pictures up tonight.

there ya go model...see p.o.'s full of ideas. maybe use some .030" thk styrene (cuts like butter even with scissors) and cut out the cap "bill" then putty the hat! seems easy enough. as for the rest of it...good luck...LOL.

Boohoo [BH] oh man!! And I thought it was hard scratching that watch cap/beard combo...

Actually, I [tried] scratching a ball cap in 1/35 for a seal figure that had no headgear whatsoever. It was a combination of smoothed out putty over the head in the hat shape, then a bit of bent styrene for the bill portion. Then dabs of putty after it had all dried for the little bump on top and a Velcro rectangle for the "Calico Jack" patch (details of which will have to be painted on of coruse). I can't wait to see your (gunna be sooo much better) 1/16 scale version.

The helmet? Can't even imagine... Dead [xx(]

Sorry guys ... this one is moving a little slow too I guess.

I'm still trying to get most/ all the "bad" spots filled and sanded. I had planned on just building this one straight out of the box .... but then again, you guys know me better than that.

Since I can't really think of something to do with the base .... and the only palms that I can find are for 1/35 figs ... I'm planning on changing up the figure a little. Instead of having him wear his helmet like he's still out on patrol, I'm planning in having him hold it by the NVG mount (yes, I'm going to have to scratch another one ... DANG IT!), while he's wearing a "team" ball cap. Pretty much a "pose for the camera" pose. I don't think that it'll be too much work though. Here's the to-do list before I get it back into the booth for the 2nd coat of primer .....

.... finish filling holes, remove the chin straps from the face, rework a left ear (yea, fun!), scratch a ball cap, drill out the inside of the helmet and scratch in padding and chin straps, scratch an NVG mount, photoshop some decals, and .... oh, yeah ... save the planet in btwn primer coats!

BIG sigh ..... guess I've got some work to do....

Thanks for those camo .... it helps get the mind going. However, I'm really not getting "run over" by anything. This guy is just standing here and I'm nto sure how to tie him in. The top of the base is pretty small, so it's got to be ..... UHhhhhh..... I don't know  .....

I'm sure something will come up.

It's like my workbench has had 3x weeks to conspire against me!......Banged Head [banghead]

I may have to flip out and build a Corsair or something! BAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Glad to have you back! Epic fail or not haha Tongue [:P] oh well- it was a good effort. I know camo and I were hoping to get our respective pieces finished by the time you got back and neither of us could pull that off either.

I got a few details to go, camos got a few more figures to paint, lol haven’t really missed much. I got a few 1/35 Dragon figure kits, a lot of cool weapons and poses- was hoping to cast them in the future and had some questions about how best to go about it, probably send you a PM within the next few days.

Alright, alright ... you got me. I couldn't finish a figure in exactly 24hrs. EPIC FAIL!!! I know!!!

It's good to be back. Hopefully, I can get this one finished up and out of the way in the next day or so.

Oh- yeah I figured you meant stop watch style, I think we were just hoping you'd have the time before you left to get those 18 hours in, who needs to pack? It's only 3 weeks right? Didn't the Army teach you how to rough it?? Laugh [(-D] just kidding- glad to hear from you!

Finally got a little computer time ....

Maybe I should have been a little more clear ... I'm actually using the "stop watch method" in this build. I wasn't really trying to build this one, literally, in 24hrs. Since I'm gone at the moment, my watch is stopped with about 18hrs left to build. I think that once I get back, that will be PLENTY of time to get things finished up. I really did want to finish it before I left, but I was doubtful that was really going to happen.

Hope that helps clear some things up. See you guys again in about 2 weeks.

Go easy .... SCOUTs OUT!!!

haha oh I know, sheesh Blush [:I] you and model keep apologizing for giving me a hard time on how slow things go in p.o.’s world. It’s really no problem, I laugh about it all the time. Thanks though, I appreciate it. My head is all over the place right now. Work and School are neck and neck for the lead, the job I picked up this semester might have been too much, but for all the experience I’ve gotten from it, I feel like if my overinflated GPA drops a few percent it’d be ok. I for one think all the theory classes I’m taking are great, but nothing beats the real world.

good luck on finishing that with your classes going p.o. btw, i know how hard it is (assuming u'r head is in your school work) trying to do everything and just not having the time. got my degree a few years ago and remember all the work it took to get there so even though we give ya a hard time...i (at least) know what it takes to get there...lol.

That doesn't sound to bad to me, I've had the last week off, now I'll be going to back to classes... I've got a few figure kits in the mail, guess I'll be making a few updates on some new projects too after I finish up these MARPAT guys, shouldn't be much longer now.

I know what he was thinking- he lost it! Hmmm... if the point of this was to prove to me that 1/16 scale figures can be done up real quick OOB I don’t know if I feel as bad for taking so long on updates! I mean... granted I’m not in the Army and I’m not always stuck goin out into the field... oh well.

hahaha....guess he's the one who will be modeling puppies p.o.....Laugh [(-D]. yeah, he ran out of time...no big deal. as far as what to do now....i'm still going to be posting my updates...maybe have it done by the time he gets back. i know i want to work more on those curbs to try and scale 'em back a little bit. besides, the wife's starting to feel neglected because of the time i've been putting in on this project so i guess i will only be working on it while she's at work. which by the time i get up in the a.m. only leaves me with about 4-5 hours of playtime!! oh well. Sigh [sigh] ahhhhh....going out into the field....how i dont really miss those days!!! the field in germany was a different story...always going to a new town, sleeping in "old bars" playing football/frisbie with the locals, eating the food....ahhhhh....good times!!!
