Excellent paint work Eric....incredible figure..... :)
'Mansteins revenge',
Fine work there. You say you painted him in oils/enamels and that for the wash, "raw umber is my friend".
I have a question if you don't mind. Do you "wash" with an acrylic? If so, what do you dilute it with?
I have seen some people write that they dilute with water, others with alcohol because it evaporates quicker.
I have begun to try and put some more effort into figures (beyond painting the faces with Testors Flat Light Tan and calling them done) and have purchased a set of Tamiya 1/35 for practice.
I did a mix of about 30/70 acrylic/water and to be honest, while some of it looks OK, more of it looks like a dirty water stain. Perhaps I put too much on.
Do you wash in a number of light increments?
Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, PWB.

Manstein's revenge I like Floquil, although they have the stigma of the RR thing...works very nicely on aircraft from my experience...

"stigma"...yeah..-LOL- that's a funny way to put it...

Thanks INDY - my LHS has a big railroad section that may have Floquil... I'd hate to think it has been sitting there all these years and I hadn't noticed it before. Those railroad folks are dangerous people!!
Maybe I can re-purpose a bunch of used paint jars, dump my Humbrols in as soon as I open them... I suppose stranger things have been done for this hobby.
Manstein's revenge I tend to get very good coverage w/ Humbrol...IMO Humbrol has the finest ground and richest pigments out there...

Same thing I'm always saying about Floquil
Similar paint, better container (way smaller color range tho)
Just run a search for "Bengal cat breeders" in your area (the eastern front right!), I'm pretty sure that's what you're looking for. Or you could start with a white cat & some Humbrol enamels...
Yep, always had good luck with Humbrol's paint, great for hand-brushing. I absolutely despise the little tin cans it comes in though...
Well I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to go off-topic!
Have a look at these: http://images.google.ca/images?hl=en&q=ocelots&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi
I tend to get very good coverage w/ Humbrol...I find if you mix their enamels well before painting you can usually get good results with one coat on camo, as long as you go from dark to light...IMO Humbrol has the finest ground and richest pigments out there...
BTW, the fig 2nd from the left has the same leopard spots as that cat...???
Those are 1/35?! Looking really good. For places where you're using a spotted camoflage, how do you avoid having those spots build up & look, uhh, lumpy? Several very thin coats I'm assuming?
VanceCrozier Dark first to give the shadows, build the highlights up... makes sense, especially in the smaller scales I deal with.

I heard rumours of chick figures!
Hey, what you doing in here?
Well, for everything but the skin, I am also a Humbrol man...for the flesh I go the oil route...I paint flesh mostly dark to light (except with some chick figs)...raw umber is my friend...
Look, I stuck my toes into the figure threads! Good looking stuff Manny. So with the larger scale figures, are you using oils or enamels for most of the painting? I've got some 1/35 and 1/48 figures that I need to work on and am using Humbrol enamels for the brush work. Good coverage but I sort of have to dry-brush the highlights etc instead of blending like I probably could with oils.
You guys think I should smear some black grease paint on his face? Been thinking about adding that......
jetmodeler Great job. It looks amazing expecially the face. I think I'll try a 1/16 figure. What would be the average price of one?

panzerguy Really nice Manny. The uniform colors look spot on. You've really captured that longest day look on his face. Now for the one small bit, the rifle sling. It should hang down more.

Super-cool!
You're giving me a hankering to try a 1/16 scale figure.

*INDY Well Manny--looks like you got the right colors in the right places---But I think you have some serious Dio work ongoing and I for one am really looking forward to seeing that progress.
