No kidding!  Can't wait to try those Series 7 brushes soon.  I wish I bought my brushes online earlier.  I went to a local art shop... $55 for three brushes.  Ouch!  Next time I will order one from the website you recommended.  BaBill also suggested D*ck Blick too as they are having 62% off sale too.  I think I am going to order one or two more...

I bought Series 7 too. The #1,#0 and a #00 man they are fine brushes. For fine detail they can't be beat.

I am with you about using better brushes.  What brushes did you use I have to ask? LOL

Because I brought W & N Series 7 brushes few days ago but I haven't used them yet... they were like $15-$20 each!  I hope they are worth every penny.  I used cheap brushes on my first set of figures... BAD!  Then I switched to Loew's brushes and they came out better then I saw comments in Mil Mod about W & N #7 brushes.  So I have to

Experience helps too... trust me you will get better next time. 

Yeah Andy I really messed up on the first one for the Marder II D. I don't know what happened this time around. Was it determination,paying more attention to instructions or just plain lucky?????

I know the biggest help was having better brushes to work with this time. I plan to have at least one figure for each of my SPGs in the future,knock on wood.

WOW!  They all look great!  I have to say that your figure painting skill has improved BIG TIME!!!  I do still remember your first attempt last year... it was for Priest or little Panzjager something?  Hope you enjoyed this because I'd like to see more figures to go with all of your great builds. 

The second and third figures from the right are my favorites... I have to get this set.  I was at LHS and they were out already.  I will keep looking...

When dry the Archer decals go on and a final coat of mat should do it.

Bodge I was trying for the new guy look for that one. I saw it time and time again in Viet Nam,pink one day and dark brown the next,well not that fast but it seemed like it.

Really nice Tony and you couldnt get a better comment than that one that said it looks like a fairhaired person exsposed to too much sun as that is exactly what you would be after if you are gonna set these in the desert.

You know it Andy. Getting the eyes centered in the eye pieces was tough.

Great work especially the blue sweater... I like it!  Bet it was very difficult painting eyes on the guy holding the binocular.

Jack this is my first real attempt at figures,my first was a mess and I gave up on it over a year ago.

I was told to pre-shade around the eyes with brown/black acrylic so I did but i'm not going to do that on the next one.

Yeah these are oils and my intentions were not to have him look like he just stepped out of the shower so I guess he looks the part.

I've got seven more figures for the dio to do and I should have a little bit of my own style figured out by then I hope.

With winter coming on it's a great time to learn how to paint figures at my house. Keep an eye on me and if you've got any advise sing out,I don't mind.

wow great job so far!

Overall I think this looks really excellent.  Don't know if it is a conscious effort on your part or a pixel colour separation from the camera -  but the flesh tones have that flushed look.  Not like a rash but similar to when a fair skinned person is exposed to too much sun. 
Are these oils, since you say the paint is still drying?  The only outstanding bad thing I see is the smudge of black around the eyes - a result of an accidental  brush stroke?   As a rule I never use black with skin tones as it just makes things look muddy.  An exception would be for beard stubble.  Lately though I've been experimenting by applying weathering powders for the 5 o'clock shadow.

Uniform shaded and i'll let it dry for awhile before I finish it up.

And yeah you'd get tanned in a hurry in all that sunshine, I just suggested the sunburn as something to add a little more personally to the guys.

The first one:

I was so careful to get the eyes perfect but I guess a stray brush stroke wiped them out.

Gamera, Giovanni Azzara is going to guide me along from here on out. Hopefully something will stick between the ears and i'll get through this.

I'm going to do figures the same way I finish my SPGs,take a little from here and a little from there and in the end have something that suits me.

Thanks for the suggestion though. In Viet Nam you got a deep tan in no time at all.

Tony, those look fantastic so far.

Only thing I'd do different is maybe mix a little red with the flesh and give 'em a little sunburn on their necks, upper arms etc

The only thing that's Vallejo is the hair everything else is LifeColor so far.

I don't have that many Vallejo colors but considering  buying some just for figure work if these work out.
