Cheers, 'J'.

Well, after a light coatin' of Vallejo Coarse Pumice I applied a basecoat of Vallejo Chocolate Brown. Its jus' a matter of waitin' a few days for some diorama materials to come through the post.

Ohhh man, jus' sittin' an' waitin', why I can never order in advance, I don't know...! Dead [xx(]

I got the Milliput putty laid down on the base, now. I then textured it with an old toothbrush, and then layed in a few stones. The log (twig) I found in my garden and I am surprised at how much it resembles an in scale lookin' broken trunk of tree.
This I will enhance the look of with some paint, maybe jus' the bark.

Next up is the texturin' with Vallejo's stone effect paint.

I've completed the shield usin' quite a regular and safe design for this period. The design was lightly drawn in with a pencil first givin' me a rough guide. The base colour was Vallejo's Dark Red, and a nice colour it is too.

Kcmat, I basecoat with Vallejo acrylics, and then shade and highlight with Winsor & Newton oil paint.

Thanks, Berserker. The plaid is all handpainted.

I've got the shield in place and ready for paint. The back of it was pre-painted before installin'.

Thanks, guys.

KC, the other pattern I had goin' on jus' looked a little too anachronistic, and more like tartan or a 'tablecloth' than proper plaid for this period. The striped pattern i've used looks more homespun to me, and works better.
Paintin' tartan lookin' patterns on ancient british figures is a common error, it is very easy to end up with somethin' like this. Personally, I feel there must be a distinction made between the 'tartan' look, and a more crude lookin' plaid. My references show this. My 2 cents [2c]

Man it's lookin great! One question. I'm just curious what made you decide on the stripes over the plad (spelling?)? The pattern looked fantastic in the pictures and gave alot of charactor. I like the new way you have it too. Just curious what goes thru the mind of artist I guess!

Looks fantastic.  I think the shield designs would add a lot too.  I was trying to pick one to give you some input, but I just don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Thanks for your interest, guys.

I now have the flesh done. Its jus' the spear and the shield left, obviously. For the shield i'll use a decal manufacturers sheet as reference, below.

...thanks, you are a stunning figure painter---great work, man...

...and as we all know most figs are oversized for their stated scale...most 35th scale really measure out closer to 32nd...etc...

Man Fingers you are magic! I somewhat dread painting the figures to go with my armor builds. But, I always look excitedly thru this section for your updates. Inspires me to try one. Think I'll wait till I have a couple hun'erd more 1/35 fig.s under my belt though. Keep it up man!

Here is some more progress with this. I have actually lost interest with this figure on a couple of occasions, I think i'm sufferin' some burnout! Havin' said that though, i'm itchin' to get the flesh painted in on this.
I hope you guys like it.

I think all of these metal figs Fingers has done recently are 54mm.  Not positive though.

All the paints i've used are mentioned in each post. I use Vallejo acrylics for the basecoat, and oil paint for shadin' and highlightin'.

Cheers, guys.
