Looking for a hovercraft kit?

Check Ebay bubba...I saw a couple on there the other day...

Hiya, from memory Airfix released a 1:72nd SRN1 hovercraft and a 1:144 scale SRN4 hovercraft, don't know about availability but there maybe some out there somewhere, try Ebay internet auctions or secondhand kit retailers. As usual...hovercraft a great British invention.

Further to the reply re Airfix, the SRN4 (Mountbatten Class) was re-issued just before Xmas. It is 1/144 scale and retails at around UKP 22

I saw the Airfix SRN4 at Great Models for around $34 US. This is a large kit. I also have an old Revell Robotech kit that came with a couple of 2 man hovercrafts, 1 in 1/48th scale and 1 in 1/72nd. I only have the 48th scale kit left. I had planned on making a 1/72nd scale version out of it like the Hover cars in David Drakes Hammers Slammers series. There have been several other Sci-Fi hovercraft released including a resin hovertank in 1/35th scale that has reviewed on Starship Modeler. It is from John Larson Productions, which can be found via Seargeant at Arms Models. I am looking at making my own HoverTank and one of the options I am thinking of is using a couple of old TV dinner plates and putting them one on top of the other. Hope this helps.

The SR.N4 operates from locations that are above the high water mark and that are away from any busy ports. In calm seas it can hold the capacity of 66 tons of disposable load. It has a maximum speed of 70 knots over distances of up to nearly 290 miles.

Funny you should mention Hammers Slammers :) That's what I was planning, but I kind of needed a base from which to work with. I'd seen the Airfix kits, but was hoping there was something better out there, it dind't seem to suitable for my options.

I'll check out the resin one, in the meantime, if you could post a pic of the 2 man one from Robotech, it might work well...thanks!

Wow- How big are those two robotech hovercrafts?

The 1/48th scale kit is about 4" long. It is supposed to be a 2 man craft with a seated driver and a standing gunner. I sold the 72nd scale one several years ago so don't recall the size but was about 1.5" I think.

Does anyone make a model of the LCAC? I also heard of some ofter military hovercraft that was used before the LCAC, it was used in Vietnam, but I can't remember its name! Does anyone know if there's a model of that one, either?

Matchbox use to make small 2-1/2" diecast hovercraft.

Maybe finding some of those will work for Hammer's Slammers.
