I know Dan from the Scifi hero boards. he has been very helpful, and apparently has a lot on his ha nds and keeps it running. I have heard of MadDog in connection with 1/6 items. if the figs dont become a commercial venture, it will be easy enough to make figs out of Navy crew.

all priming is done including pilot figure and I am about to lay in a green liner on it to define the creases and be able to photograph it better.

Coming along nicely.

The guy with the figures is a garage kit vendor known as Mad Dog. mainly sells 1/6 scale figures.

I'm not sure if he is the one sculpting the figures or if they are a commission project like most of his stuff.

Back in the early days of the show I did research on several of the costumes for the ASAP and some BSG/Hero forum, after just over a year of it I got bored with the whole thing and sold off  most of my materials, just kept the patches and gun.

You probably know Dan Kim from the forums, he's a buddy of mine from when he was with Hi-Impact.

More work, with photos. Got Gunze Mr. Surfacer super fine light grey put on today, buffed out with 0000 steel wool and resprayed. Notice the nice modular construction of the aft nacelle group and how it grafts to the forward fuselage. I cut the wing's J hooks off so I can install them when all all painted seperately. Also I fitted the upper engine so that it  can paint it seperately and slide in afterwards.

The decals came in today and they comprise a number of markings and ancillairly markings. Pretty good thermaform type decals. Color is nice and muted on all. for those who wish to light this kit, the way it is designed will allow for the routing of wiring and such.

Division 6 if you can pass along to your freind workign on the mech's, I finally got a look at the figures and they are off to a great start. I really like the crouching mechanic!

The uniforms seem to be fairly typical Terran base unfiroms. The Colonial knuckledraggers had some oddball stuff on thiers like the big rings at the bottom of the legs forward of the leg seams. Curtain rings are the thing I used for mine and they are athe right size, big and noticable. I see what looks like the black strap added to the left forward leg and it looks like the vest has been added, big YAY on that! Cant tell if the monster cuffs are there or not...hes gonna need to send me several samples to paint to check for accuracy :)  Painting that yellow stripe is going to be fun.....not.....

anohter small update. i think I have the putty work just about finished, need to sand out the intake trunks.

Im going to be busy tonight so putty work will have to wait until tomorrow. Prime and paint is the order of the day for Saturday. I have the pilot soaking in detergent just in case there are mold oils to be removed and I can begin painting the fig tomorrow as well. I found that the slot for the display stand is within the Center of Gravity and that by sliding some rectangular tubing into the slot to receive a stand, I was able to stand the viper on the tubing, so balance will not be an issue once I get it on the stand i will make.

I have a Viper patch on order and a spare BSG 75 patch from my knuckledragger costume. Need to fish through the stock out in the sheetmetal bins for a hunk of aluminum to make the name plate from.

no, not at all, this is all helpful!

I cant see them at work so Ill check when I get home.

i got some final primary assembly done last night and putty work. I modieifed the upper engine to slide in from the aft side so I can paint it seperately and just add it when finished. Much easier than trying to mask around it. Tonight I will finish fillling the seams on the intakes. They are typical seams likeyou find on A-7s so filling is in order. on the next one I will shim it. I puttied up the lower wing/fueselage joint where the engine group bonds.   No pics, its white Gunze putty on white plastic so not much to see.

Chuck just posted his second figure a crouching mechanic.

He plans on 4 to possibly 6 figures next one in about 2 weeks.

Hope you don't mind if I post his pix.

i see the need for the new upcoming Mk VII kits for a female pilot. Assuming this IS 32 scale then its tall even for the actor portraying Lee Adama.

Last night I got the wings and tail plane sanded out and ready to install. Tonight will be the guns and "engine" compartment detailing. I added vanes to the top engine, you will barely be able to see it so accuracy will not be critical. Prepainting will be necessary and then plug it all up with tissue.  I will start painting tonight so I can get the upper nacelle installed. Putty work will be done as well on the major fuse seams and at the bottom of the forward wing. Actually, I have used minimum putty on this model.

Ground crew figs? I would be ALL over that.  Not that they would be difficult to make from USN deck crew. Same headgear, with a HAG-11 consumer headset replacing the hearing protector, Oakley goggles and leather strips added. Vest on that uniform is custom. Had a heck of a time making mine but it looks great and its full of my real aircraft tools.  Got some odd looks when I took my coveralls in to the tailor to have the stripes sewn on.  Actress Nicky Cline signed my helmet for me. Aaaron Douglas is next at DragonCon.

Division 6

Starship Modelers used to sell pilots but they have been out of stock for some time.

I'm currently working on the Monogram 30th anniv viper and have been doing some modes to the pilot.

I've added some more piping to the uniform and plan to replace the buckles, opened the jacket some since the actors always had them open, also modding the arms shortening the right and moving and bending the left (the arms are not the same length).

I've also hollowed out the helmet around the face but would prefer to replace it with a new head, might try lighting the helmet also,

Also reworking the back between the cans to be more accurate to the studio model, ironically the original  version was more accurate than the newer one.

For the Mk2 I plan to mod the pilot as well probably hollow out the helmet and maybe rework the left arm.

Someone on another forum is in the process of sculpting up ground crew, so far I've only seen the teaser of one of the mechanics with head gear on.

Yeah, I have the SSM Male Viper Pilot. Let's just say that the figure's body leaves a lot to be desired. On mine, the front and back halves didn't even line up in the mold. I asked for a possible exchange, but was informed that all the examples of the kit had the same issues. Oh well.

The head and accessories were good though, so I cut off the head of the Revell figure and used that body instead. Not great, but close enough.

I really wish the pilot figure for the most recent Revell Viper was as nice as that one...

time for a pic update. Got the cockpit installed last night. List of mods made so far:

dropped the cockpit tub 1/16th inch to make canopy fit better by making C notches in sidewall pin receptacles and sanding away part of the tub's pins. Added paper to sidewalls and some strip stock to better match refernces. scraped away upper panel detail & added new. cut out lower panel right panel and added window maker. Carved pleating into seatcushion. Added wire wrapped solder at the top of the seat. This is NOT visible when the pilots are in the cocpkit (usually seen from side) but it IS plainly visible in the full size mockup bird. Not sure why this is.  Painted the pit Tamiya nuetral grey (which is fairly dark) and highlighted with NG+15%white. Before i cracked open the decal sheet and realied that full instrumetns are provided I had already punched out waldron decals. Oh well......

*******EDit*************** I found ONE screencap over at Colonial Fleet/ Ragnar Anchorage of the gas pipes on top of the seat.

Alright time for a pic update. I added strip and stock, with generic PE True Detials radio faces. I had no plan to make this 'pit 100% accurate, just improve it and so far this is working. I had to drop the cockpit a bit at the front to get the canopy to close right and made gap fillers at the back where the sidewalls meet. no other big changes just added detail and scraped away stuff that was too generic.

yep...one glaring thing I see missing is the pair of hoses on the back of the seat, that were actaully gas pipes from a water heater. Easy enough to add and the mounts are there on the seat.

I considered working with the head and helmet...will continue to consider it :)

Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I got my models, 2 of each old and new, started working on one of the TOS ships and plan to try and make it look like a studio scale model.

Started working on the rear and removed the ridge on the back of the intakes, also doing some work on the pilot.

Once I actually have something to show I'll start a thread.

Still need to order the PE for the Mk II's.

Might want to look into hollowing out the helmet and placing a head in there, and don't forget the missing greebie that goes on the back of the helmet that has a connector hose to the seat for the EVA pack.

Glad to be of help, my kits should be here Saturday.

The BSG auction was pretty much right after the Trek auction, both selling off everything.

I love the way propworx put the real items in the hands of the fans!

This site may be of interest to you since you are doing KAT's Viper.

Scroll towards the bottom.

no RCS openings and the model has fans at the rear in the black hole area between the exhausts, easy enough to fix.

thanks again for the info!

WOW just found this galley of pix of the full size viper that was auctioned off.

I see what you are talking about in the hanger jump scene.

Guess I need to start harvesting images since I have 2 models on the way, may even have to pop in the DVD's for some screen caps of my own eventually.

Keep in mind that the model is based on the CG version (probably using the files) so there will be many differences from the full sized one.

AWESOME pics I had not found yet!

I find it interesting that in this photo we see an open pipe at the front of the avbay inboard of the gun, but in the shot I found over at RA of Cally sitting down during the miniseries ( "I hate this part") prior to jumping, it has a cover installed. No RBF flag, tho, odd since the rest of the ship is festooned with RBF flags.

Excellent resources, MUCH easier to figure things out than on SW models with fuzzy screenshots and crappy game modeling

i started doing some roundabout searches and come up with more hits on the helmet in plain light. Man I love behind the scenes and outtake shots.

Its missing the small lights at the lower cheeks of the helmet and the umbilical at the very back where the two heavy wires come togheter but that is easily added.

I found a good aft shot of it in fairly natural light int he Ragnar Anchorage screencaps of when Elosha has the crew assembled on the flight deck for a funeral ceremony.  I had forgotten just how much stuff is IN that website!

Thanks for the info on the kit, I have 2 on the way as well as 2 of the 30th Anniv TOS.

Helmet is solid silver with the gold greeblies, the green you see if from the green screen reflecting off it, there are a lot of scenes where you see the reflection on the ship and canopy as well.
