Howdy Ya'll, spent this weekend w/yard and honey do, but I hope to post the frame work complete w/a base coat of dark panzer gray to start the process of painting the mech's of the MFS.  I did have time to study and this is what I came up with in this order:  U.C. 0079 RX-78,  U.C. 0086 RX-178,  U.C. 0093 RX-93 & U.C. 0096 RX-0/Unicorn, a pretty good idea of the progression of the design starting w/RX-78.  May try to model this as a series, all I would need is the RX-178 & the RX-93 of which are available.  I already have the RX-0 Unicorn, the 1st Gundam kit I purchased @ Hobby Town.  I am also interested in building a collection of the RX-78 design, but have noticed that some demand a high premium.  I really like the new clear smoke version, but find it hard to justify the price for this kit.  Have seen the price range from high to stupid high!  I do however intend to accrue the PG RX-78, that price I can live with compared to what you get.  Keep watching f/new photos Camera.

smeagol, I like how you think, out side the box, that is what separates the ingenious from the average!  After thinking about your using the mecha skunk rifle for your build to produce a sniper, I started thinking, hey:  take the same kit Modelbuilder is building, purchase a 1/72 Long Tom AP, mount onto the arm, cut the rear recoil plow in 1/2 mount on the rear of ea. foot?  You see how easy it is to get something brewing in the thought process f/a next project!  Or how about a retro: use a 1/72 German 88, or mount the tank buster pods from a Stuka on each arm, replace barrels w/brass 20mm barrels.  This could turn into a FRANKINSTIEN, IT"S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alien

I am soooo impressed with the thoughtfulness of the design of this kit.  I can not believe I have never tried one of these, other than like so many, I thought of them as toys.  I was blown away by how two runners were formed together to incorporate two assembles or in this case several to make a working single piece.  That is what you get w/the main leg assemblies.  Not only does the leg bend up and down, but the two bottom shock assemblies pistons move in and out, plus pivot to their attachment points.  It takes awhile to cut this out w/care, but if you do it right and all goes as designed, you will as I did, sit and just play w/the thing, amazed at how complex a process it takes to form a part to function this way.  My hat is off to the fella that dreamed this up!Cowboy.  Now f/today's post is a completed leg w/foot.  I posted the previous photo of the parts runner to see again just how complex this is. and again I stress, "take your time cutting these type of parts out to insure you do not cut something not meant to be cut".  I can not say enough to anyone that this would be your 1st time assembling, study, study oh yea, study the instructions!!!!!!! Dead

smeagol the vile

I absolutly HATE the pipets and such that go on the zaku, they have yet to find a good way to do them.

Hello smeagol the vile, after watching several build tutorials f/the Zaku and others w/this detail, I understand your comment.  I also have come to the firm conclusion that it is just as well to use the ones that came w/kit, rather than purchase the turned  metal ones.  Have watched some turn the plastic (round the eadges both ends)pipette's, run a piece of stripped heavy gage elect wire thru and form to the shape as needed, reverse shade and finish paint, they seemed to turn out pretty good.  I always think of wire conduit when I look at these parts.  Looking forward to your next build post w/photo's.  Modelbuilder and I work together and was talking about your sniper rifle today, that is a neat little option for any version you may be building.  Lends itself to many mod's. Looking forward to more from you "smeagol the vile", sounds sooooo ominous.  Hey, anyone that thinks of a sniper version anything is ominous!  They mean business.      PS: a green MV lens would be just the thing f/the scope on that wicked neat rifle.

Hello Klik, glad to hear from you again, and I do hope you had a great holiday.  Look forward to what ever you wish to post.  As far as photos, use the digital camera, take the photos, up-load to Photo-bucket on the web, it is free, paste the photo URL and post to the Forum's attachment.  Not hard, just abit time consuming.  Would like to see what you said you had finished and what you are working on too.  If you do not want to start a thread, just post here.  But am glad to get you on-board.  Thanks for replying. Big Smile

Now there was one more who tossed his hat into the ring and still waiting for his reply to this build challenge.  But hey three @ one time, that will do too! Welcome Sign

Hey! Sorry for not replying recently, over the holiday weekend, my family went up to our cabin, so no model work...Crying

Having just finished two Zakus a couple weeks ago, I'm a bit bushed, but I dug out my 1/144th Tieren, which I NEVER painted Oops, and have been painting it a dark Japanese Army Green.

Would like to post some pics of the Zakus and the Tieren, but I haven't figured out how to take pictures from my Digital Camera and place them on  my computer. I'm not throwing in the towel yet.

I am also working on a Ma. K. Falke, which is distracting me from my Tieren, so all work is going S. L. O. W. L. Y.

As always, keep up the good work. Look foreward to more pics.Captain

That is one awesome sniper rifle.  Glad to see another start on a Gundam.  And what I find neat is each one is doing a different type.  Thanks for joining in smeagol, I for one am excited to see what you post.  Have looked at your work and wait with baited breath to see your  handy work with this current project.   Thanks for sharing this start.  Now there was one more who tossed his hat into the ring and still waiting for his reply to this build challenge.  But hey three @ one time, that will do too! It is always good to see color go onto the project.  I like the zinc chromate as the base coat.  Will make for some interesting effects as you begin the weathering process.  Look forward to more modelbuilder. Yes

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]Progress continues.  Both hands are now complete.  The 1st photo shows just how possible they are: Yo punk, U want sum of me.  The 2nd photo shows the complex injection process to form two parts together that articulate.  Does the photos look better w/a white background or the black?[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]

All I can say is OUT FREAKING STANDING WORK, Cosmic J.  Thanks for the posting of your work.  I would like to see you do a Gundam, and now after seeing what you can do, well, no pressure though.  I think one should stick to what he likes, but you sir are an artist! I really like the tank decaled in Gundam decals though, thought that was a neat take on the theme. Yes

What, I see U'r interested, what U got to throw in da pot?  I bet you got a Gundam that needs building, what U say about that! Welcome Sign

Well, I'm not really a fan of the Gundams. I've got a 1/100 MG Kampfer that I've been making slow (slooooow) progress on for (literally) years.

That's not to say I don't like big mechs, I do - It's just the gundams themselves. I do like things in their UC Hardgraph line though, and have posted some of those builds here.

Builds which I will now link to in a shameless display of self promotion:

"Hell Hound"

/forums/t/101860.aspx

"Zeon Scout"

/forums/p/102305/1005783.aspx#1005783

And some random mechs:

"Veteran of Future Wars"

/forums/t/91498.aspx

AFS Mk II

/forums/t/97961.aspx

"Fleige"

/forums/t/99318.aspx

"Phantom Labor"

/forums/p/91143/890711.aspx#890711

I got a few more around here, but all this searching is cutting into my modeling time. Smile

Oh yea baby, you feel lucky punk!  This thing just oozes fire power.  Glad to see you respond to my request modelbuilder.  To those out in FSM World, this is the fella that got me interested in the whole Gundam idea.  Glad to see you post your build.  I just want to point out a few details he added to this beast, 1st look close and you will see he added reactive armor to the chest area, right below the chest and on the armor plating of the legs.  This is really very thoughtful, because these would be areas to hit to disable in a fire fight.  2nd check out the smoke grenade launchers on the shoulder armor fronts.  Keep watching f/a really neat paint scheme on this APC w/major fire power.  Welcome modelbuilder to the Gundam Build Thread.Cool

To anyone not familiar w/codyscoop.com and his tips on painting, do yourself a favor and read the whole article and all the sub-parts of his techniques.  One of the best I have came across, really like the section about painting w/oils.  I started many moons ago w/IR Figures and used oils alot in the painting of them.  Had forgot just how versatile oils and washes could be.  Great tips on his site.  Thanks again smeagol.  Reading this has changed my approach as too how I was going to paint the RX-78-2.  Just my 2 cents worth.

Built left arm today and will assemble the hand this evening.  I do not intend to cut the left hand apart as I did the right since I want it to firmly hold the weight of the large shield. I build @ a Snail pace.Big Smile[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]

Thank you.

Remember, when you build think in sub-assemblies.  Dont build it all and paint it as one piece, build the arm and paint the frame of the arm, then paint the armor separate and once there both dried and sealed then put the armor on.  That is how I am building my Zaku.

Also, a BIG thing you need ot be careful for.  Weathering.  A Gundam is aprox 18.5 meters tall.  That is a VERY big machine.  a Person can stand next to the head and only come up 2/3rds of the height.  So when your weathering, if you weather it like you would a tank or car, it will look WAY overdone.

use this guide, very good

http://codyscoop.com/ht-building.html

Thanks f/the info and tips.  Good advice too about the weathering.

Yea sure.

The picture you linked, look carefully at it.  See that odd sheen on the color, thats because it is not painted.  He just detailed the bare plastic.

the other reason you can tell is that its really REALLY hard to get pastels in hobby paints.

Yes sir, you are correct.  It is the plastic color the parts are molded in just detailed lined.  And yes, pastel colors are very difficult to locate.  However I work in the remodeling trade for a living and there is pastel latex paint available compatible for use in a airbrush after thinning.  However, I do not intend to follow his color scheme to the letter since it really rep's the game version, but rather the series version with the colors more a military tint in color w/semi top coating.  And I also will add appropriate weathering and wear to the MFS.  But hey, all this talk about paint, gotta get this beast built first, but is good to decide on what you intend to paint what color, when one gets there.  As always, thanks for the tip smeagle, you sir have a sharp eye f/details.
