Dunno if any of you guys follow internet or Cartoon trends but recently the cartoon 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' has become a Phenomenon.  It was created by Hasbro to bring back the line to re-release their toys and was put on the HUB network and marketed to girls.  They hired Lauren Faust to develop and help write the show, she is best known for the cartoons Power Puff girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Animals.

Something unexpected happened though... Faust made the show... good, very good and the demographic changed drastically from little girls to men ages 15 to 30.  I am not lieing about that, and I am one of them.  I can write a small treatise on why I enjoy the show, things like using source material going back to old slapstick like three stooges or comedy like Benny hill or the marx brothers, taking ques and gags from looney toons and warner brothers, and even going as far as to making references to everything from Tolkien (in the form of designing a dragon central to an episode after his own artwork of Smaug) to Doctor Who.

Now... what brings me to write this here.  The second season just started to air, it is three episodes in.  The first two episode center around a Villan 'Dischord' who was freed and is seemingly all powerful but just uses his powers to create chaos for his own amusement and to watch everypony attempt to stop him.

Now, any fan of the Star Trek series from The Next Generation on will automatically recognize the voice actor of Dischord as 'John de Lancie' who played the character Q who was Omnipotent and liked to play games and cause chaos just for his own amusement...  Basically the whole first two episodes WAS Q in My Little Pony.  The kicker of it was at the end they had a kind of royal celebration, rewarding the main 6 ponies for saving the day and well... look for yourselves with a side by side of the source material

I just thought you Sci-fi guys might get a kick out of that.

I love all the scifi stuff and have collections of Startrek TnG, Voyager, DS9, SG1, SG Atlantis..... Safe to say im an addict lol.

Best particular episodes are too many to mention but i always seem to recall the TnG episode where Picard is held captive by a romulan trying to break his mind. The shakespearian acting background for both actors really payed off in that episodeSmile

Faves include: Star Trek, the original series. Favourite episodes: The City on the Edge of Forever and The Trouble with Tribbles.

The X-Files: Favourite Episodes: Acadia for its humor and The UnNatural, very poignant.

The Twilight Zone, the original series: favourite episode, The Midnight Sun.

Does anybody remember the short lived series Logan's Run?  I liked the episode Crypt.  I also liked the series, Friday the 13th: the Series which had nothing to do with Jason Voorhees.

Only Trek I like is Enterprise. Where they didn't always have a solution and their uniforms actually got dirty. Not to mention they looked like uniforms.

I like them all, never watched Enterprise when it was aired but now that I have found it on Netflix, I am enjoying it immensly!!

Dr Who, especially the revamped series. Toss between Waters Of Mars and Blink. Just found out the Actress who played Sarah Jane Smith, Elisabeth Sladen passed away on the 19th April.

Firefly, which ended way too early, and BSG are brilliant too. Caprica I missed out on only caught a few episodes, just hope Blood and Chrome is going to as good as BSG was.

Caprica season 1,the aired episodes, and season 1.5, the unaired episodes are on dvd now. Watching 1.5 now ..very interesting. Loved Dr Who The Stolen Earth double episode and Torchwood Children of Earth finally.

Anybody remember, Rocky Jones, Space Ranger?

These creaky old bones remember him as well as his predecessors, Space Patrol,  Captain Video and Tom Corbett, Space Cadet. I became good friends with Ed Kemmer, the lead of "Space Patrol", and I built a model of his P-51B for him about two years before he passed. The "Terra V" was an awsome ship and I am constantly amazed at how well the craftsmen and special effects artists pulled off some of the visuals on live TV.

 Hun Hunter:

The X-Files, can't pick one episode.

I was always a fan of the episode with the cul-de-sac gated community with all the rules, and when someone broke them some creature came out of the ground and killed them and drug them into the earth.

That episode was called Acadia.  Inspired by that episode, I used to have our Parish's youth group welcome new Parish members by "flamingo-ing" their house.  We would go at night to their house and put about 150 plastic flamingoes in their front yard and leave a note on their door saying welcome to the parish and then we would come at night and remove them and wait for the next newcomer.  It was a blast.  We did that to the Bishop's house and he thought it was a stitch.  The X-Files reminds me now of Kolchack, the Night Stalker.  My favorite episode was the one where there was a headless man who rode a motorcycle around and bisected his victims with a sword like a jousting knight.  Kolchack defeated him by finding his lost head and reattaching it so the ghost could rest in peace.

Whilst travelling with a group of friends in Japan, I brought Top wo Nerae 2 (diebuster) dvd for some light viewing. Then one night surfing the channels from local TV station, it just happens a marathon of Top wo Nerae (gunbuster) was being shown.

If you know the relationship between the original and sequel and how the epicness is amplified if you view them in order, you understand! The night turned into a double marathon - it was EPIC! (killed half of next day though)

OOOOHH, juggle, juggle, juggle.  That is definitely a brain teaser as the list is rather lengthy.  I would have to narrow it to several episodes of the new Battle Star Galactica.  And for pick number two, the new Doctor Who, although there have been very many good episodes I would say one of the best is Blink, which introduces the Weeping Angels.

Lack of Doctor Who on this thread has me worried about you all...

The problem with Doctor Who in a modeling forum is you’re going to build WHAT? The Hand of Oberon? The Key to Time? The Sash of Rassilon? The Pandorica? Most of Doctor Who is monsters,  props, figure modelling, and fiddly-bits.

The spaceships from the first few series (British notation) were little more than tricked-up cereal boxes. And to the best of my recollection, none was ever used after the original arcs. Although the Master’s TARDIS (disguised as the Adjudicator’s spaceship) in Colony in Space (the penultimate story of Season 8) was half-decent.

I have a UBS router that lives on top of my venerable desktop tower (I use my laptop for forums) that’s in the shape (& sound) of the TARDIS.

Hard to pin, because i love so many different series. but if I had to make a hard choice to show to someone that had never seen the series, and at the same time be one of my personal favorites, it would have to be:

Farscape: John Quixote

ST:TNG  Fistful of Datas

Space: Above and Beyond TiE   Ray Butts/ & The Angriest Angel

If you aren't having fun, you're doing it wrong! Build to please yourself and they will flame you every time!

Star Trek original series....    You guys are good, I can't recall the names of the individual shows. There were a few of the installments that I really liked. Too many to say which was a favorite.   (and then, I wouldnt know the name of the individual show.... grrr)

Enjoy the ride!

Goodness180: I have seen *A*L*L* of BSG, original and re-envisioned, plus “Caprica”. My aside had nothing to do with the sex in the show and everything to do with the actress’s reaction to being cast as a ****. “Razor” was one of the better arcs in BSG.

Ya BSG was pretty awsome.  I still need to get cought up on all the Caprica series i did see the Pilot though.

I thought that "Defying Gravity" was a great show. It just didn't get enough exposure. I watched the whole thing "online' because it wasn't available to me any other way. All the episodes were good. Good potential modeling subjects as well.

MAJ Mike

Anybody remember, Rocky Jones, Space Ranger?

Yes, why? (As in: why would you WANT to?)

There was a repeatedly used swatch of footage with “Birdie” (the aluminum Christmas tree-like sensor array on the “Silver Moon”) being deployed (except when they didn’t) any time the Space Rangers landed on a strange planet.

About the only thing I recall from the entire miserable series was Winky (the comic relief sidekick) threatening: “If you tell me that if I have to wear my spacesuit out there, Birdie. I’m going to pluck out all of your feathers!”

Firefly rocks, no question! Especially the last ep, Objects In Space.

Did ya like the movie Serenity? It replaced Blade Runner as my all-time favourite!

I have the box set but I haven't watched it all. Really need to.

I haven't read through the thread to see what I may be forgetting, but the new "Battlestar Galactica" was amazing- my favorite episode when they found the destroyed "earth". Next would be "Stargate Universe"- but no particular favorite episode- most were excellent.
