Viper markings

I need some decals for the Monogran Viper.  The decals that came with the kit have started to come apart despite my trying to keep them together.  I know there were some sets made but I can't find any at the moment.

Stik,

Monogram's Viper is 1/32.

Ikar,

The stripes are fairly simple. You should be able to make a set of masks from Tamiya tape. I just checked Starship Modeler's store and they have a set of masks for sale that should work. I think Paragrafix made some as well. I should probably finish mine up, it's been on the shelf of doom for almost 30 years.

Oops, wrong type of Viper. I was thinking F-16 type of Viper for decals. I didn’t notice that this was in the sci fi section. I found this thread in recent discussions.

Never mind...

No problem.  I'll probably need a set for the Wolf Ppack from when they entered the Pacific for the first time.

When people started calling the F-16 Viper it was when it first came out in the 70s.  No one liked its real name, and might have been satisfied wioth just plain falcon, but that name was rejected by the Air Force because falcon was already in use.  Viper seemed better and was stolen from Battlestar Galactica.  I don't know if viper has taken hold or not in the military because it's been a long time since I got out.

Other names we called it was Hoover, because we thought the lowe intake could sweep the flight line while it taxied.  Gotta love that F.O.D.  Because of its new fly by wire systems electric jet was a popular choice.
