Really? That big Romulan ship is one of my favorite designs from the ST universe. Too bad there's only the one small kit from that three-piece set with the Ferengi and Klingon ships.
Or is there????

Ravenstar Studios was working on a 1/1400th scale D'deridex cruiser(as well as the Valdore) but sadly got a C & D from Paramount. Chris was apparently turned in by another small manufacturer.

A C&D, eh? Too bad...well, if it's not properly licensed, it's a crime!

I remember a movie called Battle beyond the stars with john boy walton in it. His ship, i thought was the coolest thing i'd seen in 1980. The enemys ship was really cool too. I think it was because every time they showed it it was one of those long slow full length shots. Did they ever make any kits from that movie, garage or other? I wish they made a model of the ship from the sphere, that one didnt get enough air time. The cygnus will always rock, its the lighting. All time fav is the Galactic though, its the lines, it just looks like a warship. Am I out of line in thinking that the cgi ships dont hold the same effect in their full length slow pan shots as the real studio models do. I like cgi and i curse it as well. T.L.

The 'Battle Beyond the Stars" ship, wasn't that the one shaped like a woman's body? I liked that ship too.Tongue [:P]

I much preffer models to CGI. CGI just seems to be missing something or maybe it's too perfect to believe. I don't know but give me a studio model any day. They are almost like movie stars themselves!

Yeah, ya know I never could put my finger on what that ship looked like but as soon as I read "shaped like a womans body" it hit me. Thats what it does look like. Pretty sneaky them throwin in subliminal mind control. Now that I think about it, it matches up with the ships female computer voice. What was her name???? I agree with you whole heartedly on the cgi "missing factor" I guess its like silk flowers. Far away they look cool but up close they just look FAKE! T.L.

Man, you guys brought back A LOT of memories! (or mammaries if you're talking about 'Jon Boy's' ship from Battle Beyond The Stars)

I'm surprised that there's only one reference to The Event Horizon.
That ship was beautiful.
Of course so was SpaceBall one!! LOL!

Anyway, does anybody know where you can get a copy of Battle Beyond the Stars? DVD? VHS? (whats that?!?!)
I loved it as a kid and I'm sure that its absolutey ridiculous to watch as an adult, but I'd like my son to see the cheesiness that I grew up with so he knows how good he's got it now. You know, MODELS being built instead of CGI?

The Romulan ship from Nemesis (what was that? The Scimitar?) was hot too!

For the look of the actual studio models......the Martian War Machines from War of the Worlds by George Pal and the Kirk era films.

I've actually seen pictures of various studio models and I have to say, I don't like the way that most of them look because they were painted as such to create an appearance on film. They always look better on film than in person. The Enterprise D looks like it's shedding it's paing when you look at the actual model.

I do like those from the Kirk era films and I also like the Martian war machines. The Martian War Machines look great in person when I saw a documentary on George Pal's work. Someone had a great imagination when they designed those ships

I thought the movie was kinda goofy, but fun to watch. Robert Vaughn's "Manta Ray" ship was really cool. Here is a link to the DVD at Amazon.

My fave is the Nostromo from Aliens. It looked like a real beater, used and abused that is. I built the Halcyon kit a while back (it was in storage for a while) but I haven't weathered it yet. I'm still looking for some decent pictures of the studio model before I go gunking it up.
