Hey fellow artists.
I picked this little gem up at Target a couple of weeks back and pulled it out last week to just build it. I was so impressed with the seamless assembly that I took it all the way instead.
After assembly I rubbed the model down with 70% Iso and layed down a thin coat of Tamiya NATO flat black. I then sprayed Vallejo Metal Series Magnesium for my base color. Once I had that done I finished off the final coat by thinning Vallejo Metal Series Chrome by half with Vallejo AB thinner. I sprayed that in patches and unevenly for a dirty space metal effect. It actually worked lol.
The model was then sludge washed with Vallejo Game Ink black thinned by about 30% and the excess removed with thinner and q-tips.
The windows were actually painted with the ink and have a very mild translucent effect leaving some of the base chrome under it to reflect. Again, it worked lol.
The yellow stripes were a combination of Israeli tan, sun yellow, and brass thinned somewhere around 25%. The only masking I did was for the main stripes from top to bottom. The paint was applied by brush and I just mimicked the patterns on the stickers.
The exhausts were Vallejo Satin with a brush tip of Magic Blue and Dark Red for the feint heat discolorations so the base magnesium color would show through. The insides of the exhaust nozzles were black washed and Tamiya weathering white powder was used for the soot effects. That, actually worked too lol.
It's completed with an overall coat of thinned Vallejo Gloss.
I'm quite happy with my results!

I was planning on using the sponge method to get that chipped effect, but when the time came I was feeling a little lazy and just grabbed a hairy stick instead. I think I replicated the look of it alright.
As I said above, I just mimicked what was on the stickers and I got lucky enough to pull it off convincingly.

Thank you! Yes it does build up very well. Bandai has impressed me. The very clever ways they've used to hide the seams is ingenious.
I'm very interested in building more of these kits now.

You know how fearful of NMF paint schemes I am, usually. This one just turned out good without issues. Must've been the humidity? Lol
I think I've gotten it fairly close to what it's supposed to look like in the show. At this scale it's hard to say. The assembly instructions are printed on the inside of the box, but there are no painting instructions and only stickers are provided.
My Slave 1 has full painting instructions and decals, but the kit is molded in full color and stickers are provided.
It's an odd sort of catering to those who have the skills, and those who just want to build and display as is.
Let's just say I'm now a fan.
