On a lighter note it’s been fun catching up with your progress Bakster.

Glad to hear it my friend.

I was thinking of you and that there should be a celebration in the land of Capnville.

PS: Don't tell Clapper if you are having a celebration dinner. He'll show up unexpectedly.

Just an FYI on that.

In Victorian engineering practice, it would be wholely appropriate to have a skylight over the main Enginering space.

Good input!

But, we could surmize that Nemo might want armored shutters to protect a vulnerable location like that.  So, blacked-out windows would be apt.  Especially as there are no guard bars over the top.

You may have sold me on the blacked out windows. That was my first instinct and now you have given me a viable reason for it.

I appreciate the input you guys are giving me. This is really good stuff.

We had rain, alomost 12-13mm worth!  And threats of ran over the w/e.  With an actual Cold Front--as in highs of only 80° on Monday.  WooHoo!

I watch mostly YouTube now a days and they are driving videos my way about flooding. They showed parts of Texas having flood issues and they noted the cold front too. I was thinking of you and that there should be a celebration in the land of Capnville. Wink Beer

You know... I have no clue. I always assumed it was some sort of outcrop for some sort of internal mechanism. Looking at it closer-- it could be a skylight? Instructions don't label things,we are left in the dark. I really wish they'd label things like they did many years past

Having recently re-watched land of the Lost, that version had no skylight there, at least on the stand-upon studio prop.

My (admittedly cursory) check of movie stills is inconclusive for 20KLUtS.

Still, it looks good.

Tanker-Builder

Hi!

What I usually do with Skylights is this. Take Two medium sized drops of Teal or dark Turquoise and One medium drop of Natural pearl. Mix well, then Bob's yer Uncle! perfect color for the offset light Cast from a Horizontal Flat or Curved window.

Hmm. Sounds like a good recipe. I may even have the base colors, or close to it. It won't be exact to your recipe but I will mix up what I can. I think I know what you are going after.

Thanks TB!

Sorry to hear of your losses, know how painful that can be to lose a long time pet.

Ours made it to twenty, she would come up to me when I got home meowing and I would say "No, they did what; yes that was naughty" my daughters faces were a picture when they were little with their mouths wide open. She was named Buffy the mouse slayer. On a lighter note it’s been fun catching up with your progress Bakster.

Tanker-Builder P.S. What is that large rounded thing almost at the Aft of the upper deck? Is that a Skylight?

Instructions don't label things,we are left in the dark. I really wish they'd label things like they did many years past. But if a person were to wing it-- a skylight is a good guess. It is something for future builders to consider. It would be cool to put something clear in those panes.

Hey TB-- you know... thanks for bringing that up. I think what I will do is treat it as such. I will paint the frame aged brass and probably just blacken the windows. Or should I use another color to simulate backlit glass? I know people use blue but I don't think that wouldn't apply here. Yellow? White? Or play it safe with black? Then glosscoat to simulate glass.

Looks awesome to me Bakster- good show sir!!!

Thanks, Brother Cliff.

If I'd tried to put those rails and stairs on the Nautilus she would be looking like she'd fought the Kraken and lost.

Funny!  But I am sure that is not true.

Gamera
And yeah, I'd love to see more of the Bullion Express. She was coming along so well

I expected you would be a yay vote. You mentioned it before you wanted to see more. I have you marked as a yay. Wink

If I took a tighter image of it you'd see it. But your point about nature and age is a good point.

Nother question! Where's Nemo Gittin his getus! Dis guy has to have a stash somewhere. Is it still in his Wagon?

LOL.  Yeah, that is partly right! In the timeline of things-- Bullion Express precedes the Nautilus. It is Nemos cash cow! Stick out tongue The issue here is that Nemo is outspending its throughput. The Express can't mine it fast enough. You need not worry--I am advised another shipment of bullion is in route. Cash flow is "floating" along.

Where? And besides something not perfect in something of that nature gives it character which enhance it's patina of Age. Well Done my Friend! P.S. Ok, more PE work done. The supplied PE is nice. It cuts from the sprue easily, it is malleable, and it is easy to form. If there is a downside, the softness of the metal makes it  delicate. But, it is what it is, and I am not complaining.

Aside from some self induced confusion of what railing goes on what side, they went on easily. The buggar was the stairs. It is not my best work, slightly wonky, but not terrible. I will work to improve them a bit.

Todays work is not glued down. I will paint them off model aged brass and then install later. I'd rather paint them off model.

End of update.

Dodgy

So. Bako old mate, with all this attention to Cap'n Nemo's sub, has he started getting in your ear about his gold wagon? Because we all know how much he loves gold..........

Dodgy

Hey Ferg, you must be psychic. Nemo has been drubbing on and on about bullion and that he needs more. He says that material costs are exceeding budget estimates. I tell him, "Sorry Captain Nemo, I'm not the one buying Persian rugs and such."

Oh, he did not like that one.

But Ferg... are you planting a bug in my ear about the Bullion Express? It's probably a good idea because if I don't get some arm twisting I might jump over it again. So, if you guys want me to start that one up after this one... please bug me about it at the end of this project. Because I tell ya... I lost my motivation for it. That said... nothing motivates me more than keeping my good friends happy. Leaving it up to you guys. Otherwise, I will eventually get to it.

Nope not going to get caught up in a religion discussion but I did see a video a few months ago about a guy who woke up in a beautiful meadow on a perfect day and his dog came running up to him wanting to play. Then he remembered his dog had passed away years ago. Then he woke up again on an operating room table and a rather disturbed doctor told him he was glad to have him back- the guy had been clinically dead for a minute or so.

Gam-- thanks for sharing that. There are many accounts along this line. It sure makes one think.

Did it really happen or just a story- darned if I know...

On to less controversial topics- so sorry to hear about your beautiful dog Dodgy and the Nautilus is coming along amazingly Bakster.

Hmmmmm!

Verry interesting!. Personally, I won't rain on anyone's parade for whatever reason. Suffice it to say, if that is what she believes, I leave her to it!

Also a good and fair statement. Amen!

Don't know if I believe it, but it's a lovely thought. Funnily enough, I had good cobber , a Navy Korea War vet, who firmly believed that, when he died, he would be reunited with his dog Twisty. Johno has passed now and I really hope that he and Twisty are together again.

This was my girl until cancer stole her from me. Her name was Cat, short for Catastrophe. She was a greyhound and a rescue dog. She's been gone for over 3 years now and I still desperately miss her.

Cat looks like a sweet girl, for sure. It breaks my heart to see us lose them.

BTW. I have seen a person speak on the subject of pets and the afterlife. Interestingly, the speakers first name is Kat. Kat claims that from young on she has been taken into heaven  thousands of times and that the purpose of this is so that we can get a glimpse of what awaits. It is her commission in life to share that info. Up to the reader to believe or not believe, but what is interesting is she claims all our pets go to heaven and that they await their owners that go there. But, they are not just sitting and waiting, they are playing, and having the time of their lives. She also said to prepare yourself because our pets will talk to us.

Something to ponder.

Please no wars from people on this subject and post. I am not preaching, just stating what this lady said. Believe it, not believe it, up to you. Let's leave it at that.

So, so good mate. I plan to purchase one next week. It won't be a patch on yours though, because I know nothing about electronics.

Cheers mate.

Hey Ferg, it doesn't need all the frills I am putting into this to make it good. You can make a beautiful model nonetheless.

Glad to hear you are getting one! Once you build it I want to see pics.

TB, for your model fix. Wink

PE added, this time at the stern.

This section was a little more problematic. A few of the cables were a little short. They would not stretch from the screw shroud to the locator on hull. Best I can tell, the shroud is aligned properly. So, to solve the problem, I had to elongate notches on the shroud. This solved the problem. But of course, the last one that I went to put on was the worst and in an area that I could not get into with my razor saw. I ended up heating my hobby blade and with the back of the blade, melted the notch longer. Thank goodness that worked because one slip with a hobbyknife could have caused a lot of damage.

More PE to do. I think I will assemble the railings off the model, paint, then install them later. Same with the foot rungs.

Time for bed. The older I get, the later I stay up at night. Maybe it's a work thing. Maybe I don't want to wake up and go back to work.

Tongue Tied

YES!

I keep saying I want one! I want an Iowa Class Battleship in 1/200 with all the Goodies too! You know that our wants always are way more just Wants. They may never be realized at all, they are still "Wants". At my age Daily Life is expensive being as how I was Foolish enough to NOT prepare money for MY "Golden Years"(For the doctors,You Bet!) So I work with what I have. Following you has been just like me building it!

Ok thanks for clarifying and I DO understand your constraints. So then, I will keep building and you can keep enjoying through my build! Yes

I think I will try to finagle one!

TB-- you keep saying you want one. If you like this kit as much as you do-- you should buy it. It is worth the money and I think you would enjoy it.

You know. I am beginning to rethink how I will mount this. I am appreciating this kit more and more each day and I am inclined to not use the octopus squid thing. I might mount it on a board and maybe just make a sea bottom. Just spit balling, but that is bouncing around in my head.

And you are welcome. Thanks for following, posting, and enjoying! Yes
