Thanks Dan. No I didn't end up lighting this oneAshamed [*^_^*] maybe next time. What I do for non lighted kits is spray Testors Metalizer Aluminum and after thats dry I spray on a clear ink (blue, red, green ect) It seems to catch the light and refract it back out through the ink. This work especially will with camera flash as can be seen by the glowing crystal effect between the power conduits. The back of the impulse engines and top and bottom of the nacelles will have the same treatment.

That looks amazing, Matt....the painting brings out the detail in your ship..

Is it lighted, too? Big Smile [:D]

Will the painting is going slow but sure. I have most of the top side weathered and will be moving on to the bottom. Usually by now I would have put a model away for awhile but this one has been a real joy to build. Here is an update on the topside.

And some top side detail.

Now off to work on the bottom.Big Smile [:D]

Matt,

Thanks for the invite, of course Woody did the same. I just need to finish up a few project around the home then it is back to model building for the Fall and Winter. I would like to join in the next GB after this one is done. Does anyone have any ideas what that might be? These ships are looking fantastic. I can just picture all of them coming and going around DS-9 or even one of the other space stations. The view is wonderful.

Hey I just found a cool effect. I'm sure it's already come up somewhere but here it is. I wanted to create the deep iridescent blue on the windows. After painting the three window depressions gun metal I mixed blue artist ink into Future floor wax. Using an eye dropper I filled the depressions with this mix. It took three applications to keep the surface area to dry even with the window frame. After it had time to dry it looked exactly the way I wanted. Now off to all the panel weathering.

Using the 25 meter length from EAS, and the Scalemaster, I come up with 1/98th scale.
Paint job looks great so far.

Thanks again Woody and Dan.Big Smile [:D]

As to scale maybe you can help me. I went straight off the schematic in the photo and that came to 10" from nose to web emiter. Not a bad size for a display. I'm going to light it and have a cool idea for the base.

Matt that fighter is looking flat out great. Your next project looks very promising as well. I'll go ahead and add your project pic to the project gallery in the original group build post. What scale is the Tholian vessel going to be?

hmmm I happen to have 2 lead Tholian web spinners for the Starfleet Battles game and they look exactly like your reference pics.

Thanks Snoopy. The bulk of the panels are .040 styrene and for the rounded areas I went thinner and heat formed it to shape before attaching. Laminated parts do want to feather on the edge when sanding or filing but don't worry about that you can go back over the edges with super glue and then sand to the final shape. I'll let the laminated parts dry for about 24 hours before working them to shape, this seem to help some.
You could still jump into this build with a smaller project. Thats why I'm building a Tholian web spinner. Its small and has simple lines and should be easy to wrap up by Dec. There are some realy cool shuttles. And if you need some help along the way my door is open. In fact I'm certain most of the members on this build would be glad to offer suggestions. If not I look forward to working with you on the next GB.

Matt,

I think it is great! You said it was sheet styrene. I was wondering how do you get the nicely rounded edges? Every time I try to file or sand styrene edges, they never come oout looking like round dowel edges. Did you have any problems of the styrene de-laminating while filing/sanding? I have been thinking about scratchbuilding a starship but it is a little to late for this GB. Maybe the next one. I have seen some sketches of ships and amazed how you get the nice detail from these sketchs that show detail blurred inspots. My hat goes off to all doing this group build. Matt this is just amazing!

If I build another Peregrine it will be 1:48th scale and if I do that I will most likely kit it. The painting on this one is going great and I hope to have some pics up soon. While paint sets I've started build #2 for this GB. Having so much fun I'm not ready to stop yet.

If I match the CG image it would be in metalic grays. I picked up some RAF gray and Canadian voodoo gray for the base colors. I'll see what I can come up with when mixing. I counted at least 7 colors in all. Now that I'm too far into it I wish I had kitted it.Sigh [sigh] I did however pickup what I need for my next build.Evil [}:)]

Wasn't That the larger ship (Peregrine Class) not the fighter? The fighter is only a two man ship.

actually Maxx it was used in the begining of the first season of Voyager during the Series premier episode Care Taker because they plainly show a Perigrin class of ship which was commanded by Chakote.

Thanks guys. This was only seen in DS9 and as far as I can tell there may or may not be a studio model of it. I haven't been able to confirm the photo I found as a model or CG.

Snoopy; It is all from sheet stock and a little tube stock. Lots of lay out and reference.

And I did notice the exaust mis match. Part of the problem when doing all the pre fit. It was corrected and will look alot better in the next pics.

Again thanks,
Matt

Yep, it's the same class ship in both cases.

wasnt that ship featured in a ST:DS9 episode because it looks familiar and wasnt Perigrin also the name of Chakotey's ship in Star Trek Voyager ? oh and if nobody noticed the engine on the right side is longer than the left so you might need to shorten it a little tiny bit more.

I think that is Great, Stupendous, Excellent, Awesome!!!! I try to cover all bases. I am curious about how you started this scratchbuild? Are all those individual pieces of shaped styrene or is some of it carved? Would like some type of detailed starting block. I ahve been thinking of scratchbuild a Sci-Fi ship just unsure on whether it will be my own design or ST or SW. I am trying to collect the different ways modellers have started.
