Are we due for another GB?

Well those long winter months are almost on us. Is it time for the next group build(s)?

Sure, why not. Let's at least start talking about a theme. I'll throw out a Star Fleet Battles theme.

Heck no!  I can't even find the Starfleet Museum thread anymore, and there were a bunch (including one of my own) that were still on the ways.   There's an interesting thread at Modelingmadness -

on hand painting feathers that has been very helpful to me- painting the dang Romulan bird has had me stymied for a while (that and and a terminal lack of time).

Well, I will go for anything that can be based off of Star Trek TOS model kits in some way... whether kitbash, out of box, or what ever.  I have a PL 1/1000 Enterprise/etc., a PL 1/1000 Klingon Battlecruiser, and the old AMT three classics (Enterprise, Klingon, Romulan) kit.

I was just thinking that idea of taking the old Warbird and hand painting the bird feathers might be fun.  I may do that!  Could be fun to take that lil bird and go all out with it.

So, what ever comes up, I am game for the old Star Trek stuffs.

I haven't done Star Fleet Battles for 13 years, but would love to dig into it and maybe even try to throw together one of the not-so-obvious ships - such as Gorn or (my favorite) Kzinti.  After all, my son is toying with the idea of us building something original.

In fact, I was gonna throw out a build idea of say Star Trek TOS/Star Fleet Battles same era.  Even been tossing about a bit of ideas for a badge with some different things I have mussed about with.

There is a downloadable scale converter thats easy to use here

You can find ship details such as size and a gallery of reference pics here

and schematics for most of the ships here

After you decide on the scale and dimensions of the project just print out the schematics to the correct size.

Hope that helps

I'm thinking that by "Group Build" they mean "Star Trek Group Build".

I am up for a build even though I am still working on my USS DAEDALUS CLASS starship but there are a couple of other ones I would like to takle.  I have no idea what Star Trek Battles are though or where to find a ship to build from STB.

Personally I'm hoping for the SFB GB but there is no reason several builds couldn't be started. I'm a big sci-fi fan so I might consider joining other builds too.

Starfleet Battles is a table top game based on the TOS universe. Check this site out.

I remember seeing ships for this in old starlog magazines but they had newer ships if the build is decided to be one based on the game can it be of any era and not just TOS?

That sounds cool. My next build is to merge a 1958 Cadillac with an Enterprise (probably the 1/2500 EntD I just ordered from the SSM store), based on a design I did for a TrekBBS art constest.

Masao,  Ummm... I have no idea how to even consider what you mean by throwing a '58 cadilac together with an Enterprise... but hey, stranger things have happened... (maybe?)

I got my Polar Lights Enterprise and Klingon Battlecruiser kits today!

So, what say we have a "Star Trek Free-For-Fun" (ST-FFF) group build?  Basically, what ever so long as it ties in reasonably (what ever that means) with Star Trek Universe?

Am going to take the Enterprise, not sure which version, see about lighting it up, use decals mostly for lettering and markings only and try to fill in windows with cutting, etc. for lit, and maybe mask and paint for unlit, etc...  Will be doing some funky similar things with the Klingon ship, and work both together into a dio in the end.

Anyway, would like to have an active GB where ideas can be swapped about building these things.  Have already decided I definitely want more of these kits for bashing.

It would look something like this:

The rules of this Trek BBS contest were to pretend that Enterprise was designed by who ever you wanted. My Enterprise was designed by Harley Ray Earle of General Motors.

Woody - Thanks for the link.  I think there are a couple of ship I could do.  The UNF ship are pretty close to those on the Starfleet Museum Website.  I did however notice I think under the Federation DD there is a pic of a United States Destroyer.  Who did the goof??:):)

Any GB build along the ST Universe line or SFB is fine by me.  It would probably have to be after Christmas though.  No time in the next couple of weeks.

A Star Trek free for all sounds good. Starting now and ending in May perhaps?

Anyone starting any non-Trek builds?

Alright, I have a preliminary Star Trek Group Build badge.  Am going to add a few more text details, but just got set up with photobucket to see how it works.

Testing 1 - 2 - 3...

Hey, pretty cool!  What does everyone think?  Will add in the words "Free For All" and "12/2005 thru 05/2006" to rotate with the emblems.

I'm up for it as long as its not another Star Trek thing. I like Kylewell's Macross idea or the Ma.K idea. Something different. Star Trek has been done to death.

There is a Macross Group Build going on now. It's pretty loose so alternate paint schemes or universe concepts would fit there.

http://www.finescale.com/FSM/CS/forums/540663/ShowPost.aspx

How about a generic 'Space Navy' build? Any capital ship or space fighter from any series/movies. That way you could build a Federation Starship or an Imperial Star Destroyer. A TIE fighter or a Cosmo Tiger II.

I think it's too easy with sci fi subjects to end up with a niche that has just a few builds in it.
