Battlestar Galactica, Season 3
Posted by David Voss on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 2:33 PM
The Sci-Fi forum can't be void of a discussion regarding BSG for this long.  Surely there must have been someone else who watched the season premiere for Battlestar Galactica this past weekend. Cool [8D]

Thoughts?

I thought it was Fantastic. They didn't skip a beat in the 6 months since season 2.5 ended. Very Dark, and a bit disturbing at times, but I enjoyed every minute.

Really looking forward to this weeks episode. I know Ron Moore has said they should be off the planet and back into space by the fourth or fifth episode. It should be interesting to see how that unfolds.

I agree......simply amazing.

It does what Star Trek did 40 years ago....deals with the hard pressing issues of the time.

By the way has anyone else watched the online mini episodes that take place between last season and the new one?

Yes, they were pretty cool. The webisodes added some good background to the season premiere.

I watched them.....nice backstory material before the start of season three. I just wish they had been a little longer!

I agree.  Nice backstory, especially w/ Duck and his reasons for doing what he did.  They were definitely too short.  Although still cool that they did that.

I won't repeat it here, but what Admiral Adama told his son, that was hilarious.  Did they go a bit overboard with making him as fat as they did though?  Too funny though.

One thing I kept thinking about when I saw that area where they went to rendezvous with Sharon, why didn't they build their settlement there instead of the crummy area they did?  Sure they needed a place for ships to land and all, but surely they could have moved or something.  I would have moved, lol.

One last thing... even with all their technology the best transport truck they can come up with is the M35 Duece and a Half (or was it the 5 ton?) truck?  I had to chuckle about that, but it really doesn't matter.  Oh, and you would think they would have some better tents.  Must have been a sale at the Army Surplus store.  Wink [;)]

I love this show can't get enough. I have to record it everyweek. I think Tigh is gonna look cool with an eyepatch and it's good to see him sober and kicking some butt again. He that Captain Ahab thing going.

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How could Tigh not know they were on to him? I mean he was just second in commmand of the whole FRACKING fleet!LOL You'd think he would be more careful not to be seen with anyresistance and just lay low. Infact I would have expected him to be in hiding outside [or even inside] of the settlement somehow...

Another fine episode with "exodus" part 1!

They continue to ratchet things up, and lay the groundwork for future story lines! I loved the look on Tighs face when confronted with the news that Ellen was the one who leaked info to the Cylons.

Boomer will not be a happy camper if she (and I'm sure she will) confirms Hera is still alive!!

Looking forward to next week, should be some nice space battles with Adama taking on several basestars!

i think they ALMOST went to far with the political undertones..or should i say overtones...I was glad to see i was not the only one according to the BG forums on sci-fi's website...I watch fantasy to get away from all the crap...It almost felt as if i was watching a CNN documentary. The second episode, gettn better. I still have hopes for it! Its too good of a show to o down the toilet just yet. When they bring Ben Browder over to BG, we'll no its about to tank.

I dont know if I am underwhelmed by what I have seen this season. But all I know is that I love this show and want to see more.. But it just feels a little slower and predictable this time around?.. I also have mixed feelings about the Starback kid too..

Got to catch them all before the Season 3 premiere.  Great background info, as already mentioned. I hope they're added to the Season 3 DVD set when it comes out. Haven't caught the other episodes for this season, tho, as I left very early Sunday morning.  Wife's recording them for me and will be sending the first set of DVDRW's this weekend (along w/Heroes, Jericho, Lost and one or two other shows.

BTW, anybody know where to DL the Webisodes, other than possibly from Youtube?  Can't access it here at The Job and the servers at the CyberCafe are abysmally slow....

The Galactica dropping through the atmosphere of New Caprica, launching it's wing of Vipers, and then jumping away is one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time! The flames lingering in the air after the FTL jump was awesome!

Yeah, that was awesome!  Totally didn't see that coming.

Both Saul and Starbuck are devastated emotionally at the moment.  I hope they don't just gloss over it and pretend it didn't happen in the rest of the season.

While she went down fighting and took some Cylon baseships with her, was sad to see the Pegasus go down.  That was such a cool ship.

well I think it was kind of fitting that the Pegasus went down. in TOS the pegasus was destroyed by a pair of basestars while protecting Galactica. But at least all the crew got off safely and are all on board Galactica.

in the original series, it was never confirmed that the pegasus was destroyed because the 2 baystars' explosions blinded apollo & starbuck so they couldn't tell if pegasus was destroyed or not..

Also of note is that a second season script for TOS BSG was going to "bring back" Pegasus, tho not exactly in the way one might have thought....

What pretty much the way Richard "Apollo" Hatch wrote in his BattleStar Galactica novel?

Well there isn't any doubt about the Pegasus being destroyed this time.

Agreed! Like minds here. Im not worried about the Bigfoot Dueces Humvees and tents (S:AB did the same thing and that was a great show as well).

Is it just me or are Lee's cheeks bugging the hell out of everyone else? They are toooooooo far back on his face, but it looks like he has a massive lump of chaw in his mouth!

As far as the ladning site, the running water makes more sense, but its harder to film in....

Me and my dad called each other over teh phone like a couple of kids whn that happened! The only thing that even comes close was when the SDF-1 from Roborech/Macross did an atmospheric jump to pluto...however it took Macrosss Island and part oft he ocean in to the solar system with it!LOL

I was practically cheering whenTighs wife bought it. It was fitting. Gosh I hated her.lol  I am 99% certain she's a Cylon Hope she stays dead...at least for 2-3 seasons LOL.

I do wished they would mak an effort to change the trucks and hummers a little. At least in S:AB they were still on earth. Colonial equipment should be a heck of a lot diffenet though the familiarity is still nice.

I agree, that was one of the best sequences I have seen in any sci-fi show, or movie. Incredible! I watched that episode 3 times before deleting it off the Tivo. I think it takes the cake for the best episode of the series so far!

You... deleted it...  heresy!! Shock [:O]

Speaking of the series being much darker, what about this upcoming episode?

Collaborators
Chief Tyrol's sense of right and wrong is put to the test when he takes part in a secret tribunal that tries and convicts in absentia humans who collaborated with the Cylons on New Caprica — and then secretly executes them for treason. Only Tyrol has the courage to ask the questions everyone fears: What if the tribunal makes a mistake? What if they put an innocent human being to death?

I agree about the trucks and stuff! At least in the orginal series they made an attempt to make cool land vehicles! Snow cats and weasls and such!!!!!! But at least they didn't use Hummers and Ford taures!   Good Hunting, G.W.

Another very good episode! They really know how to turn the screws and make you ask,"What would I do in their shoes?".

It's cool that they've paid tribute to the old series by showing the old shuttles( though Galactica never uses them) And they showed the Snow Cat last season. It was on the asteroid being mined in "Scar".   I was kind of upset they destroyed the Pegasus, but it didn't keep me from watching that episode three times though.
