well all guns are painted and on , all railings , cranes and catapults .

I made a stronger foremast

as an aside , I just realised that all the boats were stowed below decks , and unseen .why put them in the kit . so I have spread them out on the deck for display purposes . the first photo is from the book showing them below deck .

put some crew on board , there is 200 figures here , but it isn't enough , so they are only on the starboard side .

Impressive work.

I've read somehing similar, that they used coal ash and cinders in varnish on the wood decks to darken them up. I can't imagine how a person would model that without looking like very sloppy modeling, though.

Reports on the paint schemes are all over the place.  As they all too often are.  I recall there's mention of a re-paint just before her last run out to sea--but painting battleships is a complicated process that takes more than a simple weekend, so how good the info is (or how good the paint job was) is a bit of a guess.
