PM sent, I'll let you and Bish sort out the logistics over there.

Just get me an address to send to via PM.

Just glad they'll find a home.

BTW, I don't find your offer disrespectful in any way or form.

Hi, Goldhammer, apologies for the tardy reply, and thank you for your very kind offer.  I'd be happy to take one and pass the other to Bish - you would, of course, be recompensed for the kits and the postage.  Please PM me to discuss further - again, many thanks for your kindness.

Bish - can you PM me as well, please, to let me know if you're interested?

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?

I'd also like to see a USS Bennington CVA-20 after she received her angled deck, though I'd prefer it in 1/200, as well as a 1/200 USS Juneau, LPD-10

I'll have to look, but think I have two of the Illustrious kit I got when our club sold a member's stash he left for the benefit of the club.

Both were started when I got them, but not very far along, might need some cleanup, saw some glue marks..

If I've got them,  I can send both to one of you, and let you sort out how to get one to the other.  Look complete, but can't promise anything.

Edit...looked today and do have two of her.

The RN's new class of aircraft carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth & HMS Prince of Wales, and a relaunch of the Airfix Invincible class.  No idea where I'd put them...

The Illustrious kit has been released 3 times, but it is hard to find at the minute, a re-release would help that and stop the silly prices. I was glad when they re-released the Type 45 kit last year. I have the same thought about the QE class ships as well, i'd like one but where do i put it. It would not surprise me if Airfix are working on it.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Hi,TJS!

The Buckley and Butlers are not easily identified by novices. They are that close! But the Kit Bill speaks of is a little sweetheart! I overdid the Sea Blue so she is to dark. She's small so I won't try a repaint. I did even go to the effort to add the stokes stretchers on her deckhouse bulkheads. They were all of 3/4" long when done.

Try to find REVELL'S larger scale one. It came around just after the " Enemy Below Movie." It was based on the one in the movie. Nicer detail because of size and only the second ship they did like that. The " Forrest Sherman" D.D. being the other.

Either one can be corrected for authenticity as well. OOPS! I forgot one in the larger ships-The U.S.S. Buchanon of St-Nazaire Fame. The Brits used a four piper(original Issue Model) to represent what the ship had been changed to for the Drydock ramming! They got it wrong at REVELL. The Brits made her look similar to German Torpedo boat Destroyers around at the time to get close enough.

I'd like to see a Colorado class BB, ideally a USS West Virginia.

Now US cruisers:

1/350 USS Salt Lake City

1/350 Baltimore Class

1/350 Atlanta Class

I know they have these in Resin, but, I rather see these in plastic.

And a Gulf War era USS Midway flattop.

I'm glad Very Fire has a couple Cleveland class cruisers now, just need to convince the wife why I need one...

Thanks for the suggestion Bill.  I've been looking at that exact kit but I didn't know the differences between the Buckley and Butler classes.  I've always had a fondness for the "Tin Cans" of WWII.

In the case of a DE, there's the Trumpeter USS England in 1/350. She's a Buckley, not a Butler like the SBR, but they are pretty close.

Its a sweet little kit, highly recommended.

First on my dream list is I'd like to see a 1/350 USS America, especially in her early to mid-1970s configuration for her Med. cruise.  How about 1/350 Destroyer Escorts like the Samuel B. Roberts, and a WWII minesweeper.  I know that 1/350 isn't the usual scale for large sailing ships but I'd like to see a  newly tooled large scale HMS Victory, USS Kearsage, CSS Alabama, and Sir Francis Drake's ship the Golden Hind.

Austro-Hungarian and Italian battleships, pre-dreadnouhts. S.M.S. Zrinyi, Erzherzog class, Habsburg class. Cruisers like Zenta, Novara, Tatra class destroyers etc. Dante Alighieri, Regina Elena...

WW1 era ships of the Kaiserliche Marine, RN and USN.

Trumpeter started a line in 1/350 with the Lord Nelsons and Dantons, would be nice to expand.

Hi, I would like to see these in 1/350. Lets start with CARRIERS. The MIDWAY (VIET-NAM era) or any of the postwar angled deck ships, the above named and as a tie in to the space program how about the HORNET and the other CARRIERS involved in this effort. We do need, (This goes without doubt) The CARPATHIA,CALIFORNIA,any ship from then and NO MORE TITANICS, --PLEASE. I would of course like to see the ANDREA DORIA and STOCKHOLM, the NORMANDIE(One of the most beautiful liners that ever wet steel) "not my words".The market needs ships like the HMS RODNEY in this scale too. ANYONE FOR WW1 ships? The ships then were many and varied lets see some of them (ALL NAVIES) How a good dose of USN support vessels in 1/350? We could use ships like the PIEDMONT etc. And then go on to do a really kick butt version ,CORRECTED, of the PRESIDENT liners, MATSON liners, MOORE-McCORMACK et. al. I think a supertanker might fit here, but, I don,t think anyone is going to tool a ship like that with what is definitely a limited appeal. My last reqest would be a good VICTORY to go with the  SS JEREMIAH O,BRIAN we already have. The list could go on as many want more JAPANESE SHIPS  GERMAN SHIPS. We need to see equal time, all eras for other NAVIES,   TANKERBUILDER

USS Langley

USS Ranger

USS Wasp

HMS Victorious

An Independence Class Carrier

Foch

HIJMS Shoho

HMS Illustrious

HMS Eagle (Original)

USS Midway

USS Forrestal

And that is just a few...Cheers Mark

I'd like to see:
1. DKM Scharnhorst (yeah Dragon!)
2. DKM Admirals Hipper and Scheer
3. USS Oriskany circa 1968
4. USS Ronald Reagan
5. USS John f. Kennedy
6. Modern Replenishment Vessels
7. USS Colorado
8. USS St. Louis
9. USS Nimitz/Eisenhauer newest fits
10. IJN Fuso/Yamashiro

What I certainly don't wanna see is the USS Portland!
I just competed turning a resin Indianapolis into the Portland
with lots of scratchbuilding! Lol
isn't there some sort of law thatstates: as soon as you
scratchbuild or modify, within six months the biggees go
ahead and release it?
Oh heck...go ahead and release it! :D

Wasp is available for less than 175$ on preorder from a major web retailer.

I would love to see a Canberra CA with possible postwar conversion to a CG.

The only company that seems to be keeping all of their 1/350 kits in that price range is Academy. All the other major brands only have their smallest (destroyers) warships in that price range. It's too bad Revell(Monogram) step in to this area- In aircraft kits they have pulled off some great competition for a lower price.

Some enterprising kit manufacturer could turn out models of the old '518' and '535' post WWI passenger designs and they would cover any number of  historic Dollar Line and President Line ships.

Of course, I'm raving.

Thats amazing. The Monterey was docked just down the street from my office for many years. I think the ILWU got her in some kind of settlement, and I am a little surprised there are no models of Matsonia, Lurline, Mahalo or Monterey available. But then, I'm not.

The Matson family built the fabulous estate named Filoli on the Peninsula south of here, most famous as the setting of "Dynasty".

William Matson Roth ran unsuccessfully for Governor in maybe 1980.  Anytime anyone of you come to SF, we'll walk up and down Montgomery Street and look in on the Dollar and Matson and P&O buildings and admire their models. The good old days. We did a building that had a big basrelief of Harry Bridges on the entry.

Thanks, Fred...I saw this page and pic.It is nice to have a much more experienced modeller confirm what I found. I agree that it is quite a stretch. I don't think I have the chops to do what that guy did, at least not for a while. On the other hand, it looks like it is a possibility.I have a couple of other projects in mind anyway...

I am 'on board' with EJhammer and sharkbait...I am looking for anything that I can adapt or build for the Matson liner Mariposa, used in WWII as a fast troopship. My Dad did 2 trips in the engine room, delivering troops to Libya and Oran. I will be building the Trumpeter Liberty ship and adapting it to look like the one he was on later (the McCormick, torpedoed April 1945) and the carrier Kearsarge (using the 1/700 Ticonderoga), but I would love to build the Mariposa, as it was his first ship.Since I am a recent returnee to the hobby after 35 years, any tips and advice would be appreciated

I've been bitten by the 1/350 bug. Over the past few weeks I keep finding them on sale at a couple of the LHSs here. Today, I found a Soviet November Class sub for $10. Over the weekend it was USS Arizona for $29. Neither are "new" releases but stuff that was not available a few years back.

It seems as if te Japanese manufacturers have caught up and are now flooding the market with new incessant 1/350 IJN subjects. Only three left that I may be interested in are Fuso, Tone and Oyodo (I just happen to like this latter's lines).

The WWII US NAVY kinda' fell behind the Jap onslaught, no more cruisers? I know I would like a Canberra and this would lend itself to a post war modernization subject. Also missing from the US line-up are the all important CVLs and CVEs.

Italy's WWII Royal Navy is probably the worst represented, missing is at least a Littorio Class BB or an earlier one, but the Littorio was the most widely known. Also Italy's cruisers of the four Condottieri sub classes are not at all represented.

The Kriegsmarine has been well represented in the last few months and the WWII Hipper is due out in the next future.

The Royal Navy is missing a couple of important light cruisers that may go hand in hand with the recent releases of the Graf Spee, as well as carriers and destroyers.

The French....whatever.

As for more modern subjects, we are getting the Illustrious and the gator navy's Wasp by year's end.

So, here's my listing:

1- Roma, of course.

2- CVL or CVE

3- Fuso

4- US cruiser

5- British cruiser

Well, Revell has the Bismarck (and soon the Tirpitz too), Trumpeter is coming out with Prinz Eugen (which comes with a S-100 torpedo boat and it should be on my doorstep very soon!), which is the best of the three German 'heavies.' I have heard that Graf Zeppelin is due out as well. The Graf Spee and Lutzow are virtually the same (until Lutzow had her tower changed to a pole-mast affair), and i don't care about ANY of the German light cruisers (all rubbish!!), and if a Scharnhorst comes along, it can be easily modified to become Gneisenau (if the model companies don't do it first!).  The only other German WW2 ship I would like to see might be one of the German destroyers, but I won't hold my breath.  So here's to hoping that Scharnhorst will come along soon, and I also hope likewise the Academy Graf Spee doesn't turn out to be rubbish.....

My only reservation is that the boxart design looks a bit like the old Heller stuff. I dearly hope that Academy haven't just rescaled the old Heller 1/400 kit.

Academy are well known for rejigging kits from other producers.

Fuji class Japanese predreadnought. It also can be easily converted to the memorable "Royal Sovereign" class RN predreadnought.

Either protected cruiser Yoshino or the armored cruiser Iwate. Especially the Yoshino can be converted to a dearth of other Armstrong cruisers of South American navies so my choice would be Yoshino. But Iwate also can be converted to other South American ships.

Dreadnought HMS Royal Oak

plus, I would like to see Flagman's upcoming "30 knotter" type Yarrow built imperial russian destroyers in the market asap. To these kits, you can raise most of the contemporary navies' ensigns without any modifications.

Don't surrender the ship !

The 1/350 scale is very heavy these days with Japanese ships, and really, there are only a few more that I would like to see from the IJN.  Currently, you can (of course!) get a Yamato or Musashi, a Ngato or Mutsu, an Ise, a Kongo, Kirishima, Haruna, and that's just the battleships.  There is an Akagi, and aa Shoakaku soon to be released for carriers, the Takao class, the Mogami (in AC mode) and rumors of the Myoko class coming too.  There is the Yukikaze destroyer from both Hasegawa and Tamiya, and Hasegawa has a limited release (at enormous cost!) Floatplane tender.  If I had my wish for remaining Japanese subjects, it would be another common class of destroyer ('Shigure?'), a light carrier of some sort ('Zuiho' would be good!), and most importantly, a couple light cruisers.

In this line, I would recommend first a 'Agano' class light cruiser, and either 'Jintsu,' or 'Kitikami.'  This last (in full torpedo mode) is a ship-type that amazingly, did little in WW2, although the Guadalcanal campaign cried out for ship of just this type!!  It is a strange thing, but I have never understood why the Japanese, after cleverly creating a class of 'light cruisers' in the Mogami class, did not design a light cruiser class to take advantage of the available 6" turrets when the 'Mogamis' traded turrets for 8"... The 'Aganos' could really have benefited from the triple 6" turrets available, and would have been better ships for it (9 x 6", vs 6 x 6")

But while I would really like to see something like 'Yamashiro,' I think it may be time to have a look at some of the US and other ships of WW2.  There is currently a wide range of US fleet carriers available (thanks to Trumpeter), and certainly the Iowas, North Carolinas and Massachusetts classes are well represented.  But there is only one US heavy cruiser class (San Francisco 'n friends), and no light cruisers (love to see a USS Brooklyn, as fine and beautiful a class of light cruiser as ever sailed!!), plus two destroyer classes (Fletcher and Gearing), and the liberty ship (Jeremiah O'Brian).

Some British light and heavy cruisers would be a very good thing!!  Some French and more Italian cruisers would be even more welcome!!  And finally, a selection of more German ships (Graf Spee!  Scharnhorst!!), and even perhaps a Russian WW2 ship or two would be most welcome!!

Yup, my dad was in the 32nd Red Arrow Division and was on the first boatload of guys to be shipped out on the Lurline to Australia and on to New Guina, "The Ghost Mountain Boys".

I'll vote for the Lurline and anything Matson also - my Uncle was an Officer aboard on Dec 7 - 1941. The copy of the report written about what they did as they continued to sail ( AS fast as possible being as they believed that the Japanese may have attacked Pearl Harbour while enroute to the US west coast) towards the US mainland from Honolulu is fascinating.

Also a canadian built Fort or Park freighter as well as a couple of typical WW2 tankers ( Brit and US T-2 and would be interesting builds.

Corvette,of course, as well as a Castle class frigate would be nice.

USS Guadalcanal, a DDE and U-505 would be an interesting group.

I'd like a 1960 - 63 USS ESSEX, first of her class

SS Lurline or any of the Matson line ships converted to troop carriers before the liberty ships came on line.

Oh yeah!  Mogami in that configuration is a perfect consort for either Ise, or maybe the new Shokaku coming out soon.... I also heard some rumors that Aoshima may be coming out with a Maya class heavy cruiser, as well as some light cruisers too... But then again, there's no telling what the current economic depression is likely to do to the model manufacturers.... I'd like to think that prices may soon come down (reduced oil price means cheaper plastics, and increased unemployment lines means cheaper workers too!), but I hope the companies themselves don't go bust....

If we are looking at phantom ships, I believe a good choice could be the REAL Battlecruisers started by the USN in 1920. Navsource has a profile view of the class. It looks like it would have been a fascinating ship to build. According to Navsource, it would have had 8 16"/45 guns and 16 6" guns, with a speed of 32 knots.  All six of the class were started, but the Washington Treaty caused four to be scrapped and CC-1 and CC-3 became CV-1 Lexington and CV-3 Saratoga.  These would have been more powerful than any other battlecruisers in the world, imo, and also most of the battleships at that time. The Alaska Class Large Cruisers would have been little sisters to these. The naval archives might still have the plans.  Maybe?  We have models available of the USS Montana (BB-65), and these were closer to completion than it was.

Because she wasn't her sistership, Mauretania was! Aquitania was a completely different stand-alone liner. Btw even though Lusitania and Mauretania were sisters they were quite different.

World War I and earlier would be very welcome, so would anything cool and out of the ordinary.

What about RMS Aquitania, the Cunard liner? The big four stacker served as troopship in both wars, moved thousands of troops, and was a hospital ship during the Gallipoli Campaign. Wartime livery included everything from dazzle paint to ghost grey with hospital white thrown in. Plus you get two markets with the liner buffs.

Hi all,

I am new 350th builder, well new to all of it again after a 20some year absence, and I would like to get some WWII allied Subs and the big E as well as any other escorts, ok and the Ronald Reagan or a new supercarrier as they are right now.

I decided to only do 1/350 so you could really get the size difference down.

Later all

My wish is very modest: An Iowa class battleship done with modern tooling technique similar to those of the Revell Bismarck or the Dragan smart kits and at the Revell Bismarck price range. They have proven that high quality kits can be produced at reasonable price using modern engineering techniques.

I don't want another $150-plus kit so Hasegawa, Tamiya or Trumpeter, please, stay out of it.  They should focus on the specialist market where customers are willing pay extra for subjects of less popular appeal.

Well in 350th injection molded surface ships we now have or had for Cold War subjects: Soviet; Udaloy, Sovremmeny, Slava, and Kirov- US; Nimitz,  Enterprise, New Jersey, Ticonderoga, Spruance, Kidd, Arleigh Burke, and forthcoming the Perry. All things considered, not bad. Maybe a Tarawa class would be nice for USN. For Soviet, a Kresta... and pretty much anything RN would be nice.

Definately we would like to see these ships in 1/350 injection moulded kits:

HMS Daring Type-45 Destroyer (Trumpeter I know you can do it well and the people you send to research the ship can do spy work for the Peoples Liberation Army Navy.) Even better in 1/200

HMS Hermes with an option to make it as the INS Viraat (Again a Trumpeter profit maker, maybe a million potential customers in India alone.)

HMS Astute SSN, A very exciting ship. Even better in 1/144

HMS Incomparable, A mighty ship that never was and would make a 1/350 scale battleship model that was 87cm long and beautiful in mystery since it was designed in 1915 but never ordered (a lot bigger then any 1/350 Yamato, Bismarck, Iowa or Hood)

I would like to see more pre-dreadnought plastic, mainly U.S. battleships and cruisers, also late 19th century coastal monitors(probably a little too esoteric for most mfgrs.) How about R/RG doing a new PT boat in 1/72 with the same quality as the S-100's?. There is a serious lack of Coast Guard ships as well, or how about late 19th/early 20th century subs? I know some of the aforementioned are addressed in resin, but I along with many others, I'm sure, can't afford to buy resin all the time.

The main prblem with Trumpeter is their inconsistency. Maybe this is related to the level of information available to the Chinese toolmakers. Each new release is a Pandora box, we can never be sure what we will find inside. It can be either an outstanding model like their Hood or, in aviation, the 1/32 Me 262, or the model has shape errors that are difficult to fix, one side of the hull is bigger than the other, etc. I've never heard Revell of Germany has made serious shape errors on their most recent kits. Even the Bismarck I mentioned before has some small detail errors, but nothing difficult to fix.

Nelson

And that was just in the last year!

I kinda like the 1/72 scale offerings, and they're not perfect. But still seem to have fewer errors than the others.

Excellent, but I'd rather see Revell of Germany doing this. Their new Bismarck is first class ! Trupeter sometimes makes silly mistakes.

Might be nice to see an HMS Malaya as well, since these QE's and the R battleships did so much in the Med.....

I would like to see some WWII British Carriers like the Ark Royal or Eagle.

Remember the old Pine Island sea plane tender? It would be cool in 350 with new tech as well.

Maybe then something diff like an Italian Battleship Like the Roma or something.

I would ask for some Soviet Cold War-era subjects, but seeing that Trumpeter's just released a Kirov makes that request seem purely greedy.

So, how about a Vitenam-era Essex class carrier? Say the Oriskany, BonHomme Richard or Intrepid?

And well,I'll second the call for a Forrestal or at least a Kitty Hawk/Constellation as well.

The only wish I have is a new Iowa class battleship. The Tamiya USS Missouri was ok but technology has overtaken it and a more accurate version is my only wish. Other wishes has been granted thanks to Trumpeter and Hasegawa.

Well, the Koenig is available in 1/350 NOW (originally by ICM, but now made by Aoshima), so it is worthwhile asking for others in the same scale.  I heard a rumor that Aoshima has hired a couple ship design guys fro ICM to help produce a number of additional WW1 kits in future, with SMS Scharnhorst, SMS Lutzow, and others mentioned as possible kits in 1/350.....

I agree!  I think something either pre-WWI.  Like the Konig or USS Maine, USS Texas, or even the USS Olympic.  How about something from Sail and Steam era combined.  Last suggestion, how about Ironclads???

kustommodeler1- please send me any all info you have on the Sara, and a list of mods you did to the 1/542 kit. I've got that exact kit, and would like to do it configured to pre-desert storm, when my dad did a tour aboard her.

For kits I'd like to see in 1/350-

Any ship involved in the Battle of Jutland

USS Baltimore CA-68

Yes!!!!! Wonder who'll be doing the tooling (can you say 'Trumpeter'?) Series 12 kits sell for about £40 (say USD60). Not at all unreasonable.

If it comes about, I think this would be the first 1/350 injection-moulded kit of a serving RN vessel ever!

Cheers,

Chris.

In school I think they used to call this "repetition for emphasis",it sure can't hurt to list these again:   SMS Derfflinger, with parts to build her with either the pre-Jutland pole foremast or the post-Jutland tripod.....   Then her British opposite number,HMS Tiger, likewise a beautiful ship. If these two are released as accurate,builder-friendly kits,I believe the interest will snowball into lots of other gems we want from the WWI era.

just two ships come to my mind right away

* a really up to date four stack destroyer

* a better kit of a destroyer escort in the Atlantic configuration

maybe down the road I'd like to see some British stuff. Like maybe the Ajax. And the Langley.

French Pre-dreadnoughts

German Pre-dreadnoughts

American Pre-dreadnoughts

British Pre-dreadnoughts

Any predreadnoughts that's neither Russian nor Japanese.

French Pre-dreads preferred because of their fantasy castle appearences.

I would like to see a 1/350 scale BB-38 Pennsylvania in her late '44-on configuration. It would be perfect if Dragon could take what they've done in 1/700 scale and do it in 1/350. Here she is seen leading colorado:

Of course most any of the Pearl Harbor salvage/survivors would be great, like BB-46 Maryland, BB-36 Nevada, BB-45 California, BB-48 West Virginia, and especially after thier '43/'44 rebuilds like BB-43 Tennessee seen here in mid-'43:

My nomination for 1/350 carrier would have to go to one of my favorite old gals, the Forrestall-class CV-60 Saratoga in her final fit just before decommissioning as seen here in her '90-'91 fit. What Charms me the most about this old girl is all the modern equipment were add-ons in her long life and they look like it.

I'm doing the Revell 1/542 scale kit with scratch-built upgrades to this configuration, as you an see all that is in white is scratch built from sheet styrene, but I want a BIG one.Cool [8D]

Well, that's it for me for now. Thanks for listening.
