Academy Vs. Trumpeter
Posted by Enigma1 on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 8:57 PM

I've always wanted the Admiral Graf Spee in 1/350! Now I see there are two offerings available. A premium kit by Academy and a kit by Trumpeter. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either of these kits? (I Hate Decisions!!!)

I haven't seen the Trumpeter's offering, but I have seen the Academy one. There's no doubt I'll choose Academy's because the detail up parts are more complete. You cannot read the text but you can view the pictures:

Here's a couple of reviews for you:

I have the Academy kit and it's not bad; each has their issues though.

The cost of the Trumpeter kit plus the WEM PE set will be slightly less than the Academy premium kit. I am curious which will be a better buy for the modeler who wants a little more than OOB.

Yes, I know the Trumpeter kit include PE frets for the railings and the standard version Academy has plastic railings. The premium has wood deck etc. It would be very nice to see a review that details the improvement over the standard version.

The Academy site has the pictures and the detail parts manual too. You have a choice of Korean, English or German language. But there are little commentary to read.
