Sweet. I like the greens.

Yeah, I'm getting the carrier buzz too. I had the Shokaku back when i was a pup. My favorite is the Soryu class.

What is the white zig-zag line on the deck?  Is it a painted marking, crash-barrier, wind-deflector, etc???

Can't be bothered making another thread..

Manny, can't quite tell what PE sets you used, think both Tom's (btw very crude, should avoid) and Hasegawa's sets has the photon torpedo landing signal platforms.

20th century came and went, black/white photos eventually got phased out.

So, without further ado, zuiho and tirpitz in original techni-color...and yes, it is green..as it should be :P

To save this thread from descending into random blabber, some notes from my trusted diamond sha's Japanese Naval Warship Photo Album - Aircraft Carriers and Seaplane Carrier book in glorious high res photo (unlike what's available online!) A tome that I lugged along with many others from a trip to Japan...worth the weight though!

Btw ignore comment on funnel colour, it's probably correct in the instructions on second glance.

Notes about the hasegawa kit -

In general pretty good. As expected painting guide is not very accurate (when's the last time you used instructions to paint warships? ask it this way, when's the last time warship model painting instruction was actually correct?) especially the camouflage pattern.

But, I'm lazy, so I used kit decals (which are not quite the right shape) and resultant 'adjustments' so that the decals do not look out of place.

What the kit provided for an observation post, should be a search light (and the same on the other side). Unfortunately I cannot verify whether the rocket launcher platform is correct or not. Most likely not.

What's left to do..

a bit of fading/blending of colours, small bits and pieces....rigging (meh...) and weathering..

Manstein's revenge

This ship is about a decade old, no build log...

Excellent Herr  Manstein.  I love the planes. The folded wings are a nice touch.

What are those things near the stern that face outward?

Firedeck

thats a decade old? and she's a beaut to this day...

Thanks, it took 3rd place at an IPMS Regional back in 2004...my first and really only serious attempt at 1/700th ships.  I'm more an figure/dio/airplane guy---but I LOVE ships and have many projects in waiting.  I just got the new Fujimi Taiho w/ a laminate wood flightdeck and PE fret...looks cherry...I also just ordered the new-tool Rhuyjo from Fujimi that looks equally impressive in reviews...

Bending PE is just eye-balling it, then bend with the blade edge  :P

Folding tools are for the AFV try hards.Devil Railings doesn't take long. If you've bent certain AA weapons from a certain manufacturer, (even with a 50% success rate) you can pretty much do any PE in any scale.

More Zuiho

Yep...decal markings are too thick.

Oh oh. Pinmark on the forward flight deck strut or whatever it's called.  Wink

How long does it take you to install those PE railings? I know you have to bend them yourself, so it probably takes a lot of trial and error.

Not just any carrier, but a certain, say it now................Zuiho!

Actually I knew that...here is a pic --circa 1944-- that shows my staff checking out the Hasegawa offering...they are studying the instructions in this pic...

Manstein's revenge

What is that white zig-zag line on the Zuiho's deck...Is it a marking, a wind-breaker or a crash barrier??? The Hasegawa kit has it as relief into the deck, leading me to believe it is more than just deck-markings...

The world wonders...

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb110/dblvisions2001/748px-Japanese_Aircraft_Carrier_Zuiho.jpg

it's an alchool test before flight for pilots
