Comment on my name all you want but answer my question first before you do

As I asked before, but you ignored and just made insults regarding my name,

Let me ask you this.  Lets say you found those items on ebay for 10$  Would you INSIST on paying the seller 9 times that amount for the items, or would you be on here telling us about the awesome ebay deal you got?

See, the way I look at it is this.  You all have a certain perception of someone BECAUSE there using a yard sale to sell their items.

Let me ask you this.  Lets say you found those items on ebay for 10$  Would you INSIST on paying the seller 9 times that amount for the items, or would you be on here telling us about the awesome ebay deal you got?

Pavlvs did a good and noble thing at that yard sale. If I was his Dad, I would be damn proud of him right now.

And the lesson here, Smeagol, is what goes around, comes around. Pavlvs did something nice for someone that he didn't have to do. What happened to him a little later? He won $2,000 in the lottery.

Blind chance or dumb luck? Perhaps. But those of us who have been around the block a few times and/or been kicked in the head a lot know better. You get what you give in life. If all you do is take, sooner or later, it's going to take it all from you, whether you'r ready for it to or not.

And again, Pavlvs, Yes

Good for you doing the right thing!!

I have a co-worker that just took advantage of a gal selling off her pap's gun collection; bent her over bad and has been making cash hand over fist re-selling the guns he pretty much stole from her.

Glad I have a son to bequeath my stuff to. He's not a modeler, but he's a gunowner.

I may not be very religous, but I do have morals, and I believe  in karma. I see no problem with giving her more than she asked for, you did after all give her less than it was worth. Nothing wrong with what you did in my books! And congrats with the lotto win! Beer

I agree that you did the right thing.  Although it would not have been wrong to buy everything at her price, you act was noble.  Now, what brand and size was that amp?

Bill

The amp is a Stage 25.  A nice little practice amp with lots of punch and a great distortion channel.  It also has a true spring reverb.  It's worth about $100.  I know that people deserve what they get when selling something but the models and PE sets that I got in that bundle added up to about $500.  Taking advantage of someone's lack of knowledge or experience is not fair in my book so I gave her more than she asked for.  I still got a tremendous bargain and I think God rewarded me when at work, the boss gave everyone a lottery ticket as a party favor at an office birthday party and my scratch off was a winner!  I won $2000.00 from the Virginia Lottery.ToastYeah  This is definitely my week.Propeller

I would understand giving her an extra 10, or 20$ for the items, but to empty your wallet going TAKE IT ALL, I FEEL BAD!  Is a horrible idea!  Especially in our economy, or do you just magically have unlimited disposable income unlike most of the country that have to pinch and scrape every cent together?

It wouldn't bother you if someone took unfair advantage of your mom?

If either of my parents sold something for 10$ it was because that is the price they wanted to get for the items.  If they did not know the worth they would not have put such a randomly low pricetag on said item.

Fair enough. OK, then.

I think what you did was noble, but it would not have been wrong to accept the $10.  Often people will just put a steal price on things just to get rid of it quickly.  I have done that when selling something and explained to the buyer that I also took pleasure in someone getting a bargain....better than throwing it away.

Definitely the right thing.

Wrong thing would have been to only give the seller $10 and turn around and eBay all of it at 'real" values.  Sadly, some would.

There;s an old, well-earned, adage to the effect that morality is measured by what we do when no one else knows any better.

I... I dont get this at all.  First, since when is buying something at the seller's price a MORTAL SIN?  Second, how do you know she didn't know what she had and just didn't care.  You were not taking advantage of her, it was her son's stuff she was selling.  He left it there and he didn't care, not her.

You...  you had her giving you an amp... and a pile of models for 20$

And you said NO!  you take all my money for this...   Are you insane?

Perhaps but I couldn't live with myself if I took advantage of the fact that this woman did not realize what she had.  I like model building but I still don't want to go to Hell.

I think I just had the windfall of the year.  I stopped at a yard sale because I saw a guitar amp that looked promising.  I bought it and it works great.  I looked around and the Revell logo on a big box caught my eye.  It was the Revell AG kit of the Hermann Marwede in a taped up bundle of kits that were selling as a set.  The bundle had the Marwede, the Academy Roman Warship, Eduard's 1/48 FW-190D that had two planes in the kit, Polar Lights' Robby the Robot. the Wasa by Airfix, the Trumpeter Nimitz in 1/350 and the Kronprinz in 1/350; I can't remember the manufacturer.  The lady wanted (get this) $10.00 for the bundle!!! SurpriseWow If I paid that, I would have had to go to confession.  I asked her why she was selling these things and she said her son had bought them previously and had moved to Thailand and asked her to get rid of them because he no longer wanted them.  She asked $10.00 for the amp so I said I couldn't in conscience pay so little but she vehemently insisted on the price.  I had $95.00 in my pocket so I forced her to take that amount and she did.  It was still an unbelievable bargain because when I got home, I discovered that the Hermann Marwede box also contained the full photo etch set for the boat and for the helipad plus he had also stuffed the kit of the Arkona, a smaller rescue boat also made by Revell AG in with the Marwede and the Nimitz also had the PE for the airwing, the Kronprinz had a PE set for the railing (it was a generic 1/350 ship railing set not specifically for that ship) and Robby had the PE set in the box.  I was stunned.  I don't know how much many of these kits usually go for but the amp was worth the $95.00 all by itself and I know the Nimitz and the Marwede each go for more than that and the PE sets are not cheap.  The Marwede set must have half a pound of metal in it.  I have been wanting to get the Marwede but it is no longer available and the Nimitz has always been out of my price range.  I feel like I won the lottery.Toast Where do I start?Big Smile
