Another comparison to historical evidence
And
Kits have a way of oversizing some aspects..but we did the best we could with what we had.
Bonjour,
It is always a fantastic and historic work.

Yeah David....I was working so fast and on several models at the same time that I needed to take a break so I could focus on some family issues.......I hope to get back to the Glory as soon as I can. I have been doing lots of reading too...in prep for my next build...the Donald McKay clipper.
As you may have seen...I do lots of prep for my next build..while I'm working on my current build. I still have to get to the Ferreira too. :(
Rob
Doing ones study and homework can result in lots of data to aid in your builds. This insignificant image of the Glory when she was a canary, reveals lots of information..such as the large pump and gunwall details.
Some history of the Glory.....Here she is is Tacoma being fitted as a new canary ship.
After she came back from Alaska and before she was sold to the scrapper.
Here she is in ballast..waiting for cargo.
Here she is in her hay day.....beautiful ship still running her composite masts. Just after her first refit.
Another at the Glacier fish Co. Dock. She was a very large wooden ship and well built...lots of detail in this image.
What happened to all my images?
Rob,
Have you changed your image hosting site?
Mike
Hector Berlioz
I don't know....I post images from my computer......what could be making this happen?
Images need to come from mt facebook account....NOT directly from my computer........TaaaDaaa
Picture please
I'm having image issues....but I have some here of rigging her port ratlines.
One of the mizzen.
One of the entire ship......
One exciting piece of news concerning this build.
As some may be aware the original Glory was run aground and burned for the metal in her hull in 1920 just south of Seattle...
I went to the site and was able to find the remains (at an extreme low tide) and was able to actually find and procure several artifacts...namely several portions of the iron bolts that secured her members together. She was secured with thousands of these 1.5" iron *pins* that were then rounded on their ends once in place..securing knees and framing to her ribs. I am currently preserving the nearly 100 year old iron pins and will proudly display them along the model on her stand.
Oh that is super!
Wherever you keep them, print out a page of the provenance and I hope you took piccies.
Otherwise no one will know what those rusty bits are.
AGAIN, REALLY COOL!
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
I documented the event with pictures and On the wooden shelf the Model rests is a spot designed for the artifacts. They will be labeled properly for all to see. I am so excited about the find and the idea that I actually have remains of my favorite clipper ship.....that was built by my favorite clipper shipwright.....Donald McKay....well........a highlight of my aging life.
Very well done, thanks for the update on your build. It has been interesting.

I'm sorry about the removal of the pictures...I think it was due to my provider changes ...I think it will work now.
Here is the first of the mods of the old CS hull into the Glory
Addition of the new bullworks and the correction of the cutwater or stem. the Glory had a more vertical stem.
I didn't like the remodel..so I removed the coppering and redid it......I also corrected the curve of the lacing and bobstay pieces. Then I prepped for the new oxided copper paint.
Corrected hull and painted
