David...you get here and I will give you lots of other models too.  I won't be around this weekend......I'm leaving town Friday at 2;00 for Oregon...can you slip away Friday morning?  If not what day....I have to move all these models.

We're leaving early tomorrow for Eastern WA...be back Sunday.  I sent you a PM.

It'd be great if we could work something out, but it turns out Port Orchard is harder to get to than I thought!  Dangit!

I work in Seattle...but I think the ferry trip would be hard to pull off.

Bummer...

Hey David K;

I am in the same boat (so to speak) I am interested in period sailing ships, not steelers. I found a club here in Portland last nigh while googling. Looks like it might fit the bill. Can't remember if you are in the Portland area or not.

Arnie-

I'm up north of Seattle, in Arlington, wa.

Glad you found a club!

Thanks to Tracy White, I found out about the Puget Sound Ship Modelers club in Seattle....they are meeting literally right next door to my work next month, so I'm going to check it out.  They build sailing ships.

The president of the club tells me that all their current members are working in wood, but plastic is welcome, so I'm excited to see what they're working on....probably bring one of my plastic ships, and maybe my unstarted ME Katy of Norfolk wood kit...I expect to try my hand with wood at some point, so it'll be cool to check out this club.

Now I'm not so excited about the IPMS meeting...I wish there were sailing ship modelers going to it...

I'll post my impression of the PSSM, and maybe anyone here who's interested would like to meet up at the PSSM sometime...some of us could infiltrate the wood builders!  haha

Looking forward to it!

As far as sharing ideas...I'm a model ship information sponge!  Love to learn anything I can that will help me develop my skills!

Honestly, the only reason I would be interested in going would be to see (and talk about!) sailing ship modeling...

But it would be worth the drive, just to meet a couple of Finescale Forum members in person!  And it would be all the better if there were some sailing ship models to look at/talk about.  I'll be bringing something....

December sounds good...

December 14 sounds like a date I can make, barring epic snow.

Regretfully, I'm out for the September meeting - I just found out the 520 Bridge is going to be closed this weekend. I need to get in some research and the drive around 90 will suck up too much time. I'll be sure to make the October through December meetings though.

I'm probably out, too....It doesn't seem like it's geared so much toward the things I'm interested in...

Just a heads up for anyone interested in the IPMS Seattle October 2013 meeting - it's been pushed back a week so as to not conflict with the IPMS Vancouver (Canada) Fall Show. That makes it October 19th, 2013.

Hi Niles - I hope the California winters are treating you better than the Pacific Northwet ones!

Actually we are going to have a dinger. My sister went up to the Sierras last weekend with her Lab for a high altitude rescue. They got rained on, sleeted on, haled on and snowed on.

Dog spent the night in the tent on her bag.

I am serious about December.

I'm going to check out the Puget Sound Ship Modelers meeting this Saturday in Seattle...they all build with wood, but I want to meet a few sailing ship modelers, check out their builds, etc....the admin said plastic builders are totally welcome, so I don't think I'll be shunned!  Should be fun to take some notes and chat awhile.

Not sure about the IPMS club.  Sounds like they're mostly aircraft and military, with a few steel ship builders...I was really hoping for some plastic sailing ship model enthusiasts...so I may not make it next month, either.  But if some guys from here are going to attend in December, I'll make a point to come out, at least to meet some of you in person...:)

Hey David - check in with Floyd. He hadn't heard back from anyone (including you, I checked back channel) and was thinking of cancelling the meeting.

Niles (Santa) was the only serious plastic sailing ship builder in IPMS Seattle.

Also - David, no worries. While sailing ships are beyond my patience level, I can admire them and want to help every aspect of the hobby that I can!

The Le Soleil Royal , H.M.S. Prince , and Royal Louis, were dun in Washington.  The Napoleon was dun in California.  And I hope to have the Le Glorieux finished by Christmas.

Ah, OK. I don't have a Facebook account and I limit my forums to keep myself more focused on writing, so ArmChairGeneral isn't a place I've been. I'll take a quick look tonight after work.

Is anybody still up for the Bellevue meeting on December 14?  I'll go if there will be a few other ship builders there.

Yeah, I'll be there and will have ship models in progress on the display table. I was at the November meeting but had to leave early to get in some research time at the National Archives, so no ship scame with me. There was a 200th scale Bismarck there though!
