I think staining the wood will make it look better than paint.

I'm complete with everything except for the crew and deciding what to do with the base's boarder. Do I paint it or sand it for a nice stain?  The world wonders.

your ship look's great modelcrazy , I'm use to rigging old sailing ship's , the rigging on your's look's like it would take a different skill set.

Here is the Eugen's rigging so far. I still have some more to install and some trimming to do. I'm changing the color from black to more of a steel. The flag lanyards may change to a lighter color as well. I don't like the way the black stands out.

Excellent balance of colors.  Very refined.  Excited to see this when its finished.

You are doing a mighty fine job with this kit.  She really looks awesome.

A small update, but it represents a ton of work. I have the PE railings on, now on to the rigging, boat booms, lifeboats, porthole baffles (in the original picture, probably for airflow in the July heat at Bikini), flagpoles Etc. Etc.

 

I paint them when they go down, but have to go over them several times. The acrylic I'm using  (Tamiya X-19) does not adhere well. The railings and stairs have one coat. I will go back with an 000 brush several times as I see a flaw.  Yes it is tedious, but so is applying a rust streek to a porthole or door with the same brush.

Aaa the trials of 1/350 ships. Just wait till the rigging starts.

Am I correct in assuming that you've only placed the railing that's not painted for showing how it'll look or do you actually glue it down and paint it after it's permanently attached? It looks like the stairs are not painted either. Could just be my tired old eyes though .

What you've done so far looks very nice. I wonder if there's any chance you could post larger sized images so we could check out the detail of your build a little better?

This thread keeps an idea nibbling at my noggin--get a set of 1/35 PT Boat Crewmne and a 1/35 Flakvierling, and set that up as if it were a demonstration shoot.
