Some thoughts have come to mind about filling in the planking instead of sanding....

I'm bulding an S-170 series with flakvierling in place of the 37 mm. I pulled out the old PT-109 too, figuring that I'd slam it together as a 'warm-up'. I had forgotten why I didn't build it before... lots of work to eliminate those planked decks, replace the cheesy grab rails, replace the deck lights, scratch build depth charges & racks..... I guess for the price, I could just slam it together, but still, those beautiful, inscribed plank decks.. finally, recessed detail and they put it on the wrong ship!

Yep, one of the greatest things about a group build is the immense amount of easy problem solving! One person might have some insight that another may never have come across...

This is my "interpretation" of a group build... We each work on a similar project that "fits" the theme as in this case, a Torpedo boat (PT, S-Boat,etc) we each work at our own pace in the time set in the beginnning. There's rules to follow. We can compare notes, bounce ideas off one another,etc.That's about it.

I seen your line on the list. Which kit are you working on for the G/B? I've added the G/B thread to this.

I've never participated in a group build. What is the protocol?

Is the idea to work in stages and compare notes or do we work at our own pace?

I'm a VERY tenative for this with the Revell DE S-100 kit if allowable... I've got several "must do" builds set for this month so we will see. Several are for local classrooms at a nearby school so it's important for me to finish them..

However... the S-100 is a great build and I would feel priviledged to join this group... If anyone is interested in some interesting S-boot camo from the Baltics I have some references... not sure if I will tackle something like that yet.. we'll see.

While I won't be joining the group build as a participant, I'd be happy to act as an additional resource to you guys who are doing the building. Having researched these craft for decades, I have stuff tucked away that you might otherwise have a tough time accessing.
