Yeah, thats the 1/200 Nichimo one..

This 1/250 ARII kit will set you back about $100, and I think that is a fair price for a kit over 3 feet long... And atleast they are in stock... Dont see any Nichimo ones around..

ps Bill.... This Yamato will be going into the entry of our home.. In Japan we have a special entry to take your shoes off, and we have a big hardwood shoe box that this bad boy will fit nicely on, and greet everyone as they come in..

Seen em on Ebay, the Nichimo 1/200 scale one also but they can go for over $300....

Hi smoke.. In all honesty, I really couldnt suggest a place in the States... If and when I have tried to google this kit, there is simply zero info.. If you really wanted it, then pm me, and then I would be happy to try and help you out with one from here for you.. Other than that I dont know where else to get it, sorry..

Yes, that 1/10 scale model is nice isnt it Bud... We had planned to go see it, but my daughter fell ill, and then the guy crashing into our house.. Maybe next year..

As for the aftermarket set, I am not going to go that far with this one.. Simply cant afford it, and again, maybe later on down the track.. This will be a purely OOB build..

Gold medal models do a dedicated set for this monster...Down side is it costs more than the kit...

I was lucky enough to build this ship over 15 years ago..Cutting it down to waterline was a MAJOR job with a black and decker and a diamond edged cutting wheel...

Unfortunately when my marriage broke up and I moved countries I had to leave it behind still gracing the wall of our living room..Mine was the Nichimo 1/200th version..with moving parts.

He he he, actually, when I was doing the Star Blazers version, I was trying to make it look like the a real ship!.. I think thats why it turned out so well, I didnt want it to look like a cartoon model...

Anyways.. I have started on my REAL Yamato, and in between other projects, I have been doing bits and pieces here and there on it.. The biggest problem I had was joining the deck to the hull.. Lets just say they arent exactly compatible, and so alot of putty, and alot sanding was needed to smooth everything out.. Now you can't tell the difference, and it is starting to take on the life of a warship...

I have been building all of the seperate sections individually to avoid any breakage.. This is a big ship, and so I am having to throw it around a bit in order to work on it.. The biggest test for me, has been sitting down and masking up the deck.. Cutting a little piece here, a little piece there. A piece to fit here, and a piece to fit there.. It took me all morning yesterday, just to do the front section of the ship, and you can see that in yellow.. Trying to get the mind set to start on the aft section..

Everything is dry fitted and sitting there, to give me an idea of where I am at...

Chris,

I'd get in touch with John Snyder at White Ensign Models to see if there are any photo-etch sets out there or rumored to be in the offing. I've seen pictures of the super sets for the 1/350th Yamatos and they make an incredible difference in the look of the kits. Takes them right out of the toyish look if they are prone to look that way. As big as that kit is I think it might look a bit sparse right out of the box. I've always wanted one myself but figured it would take a couple of years to do it justice. Good luck and keep us posted.

I got Nichimo's 1/200 Yamato. Unfortunately, I don't have place to display it. The hull is about 51 inches long. Diffently get the book "The Battleship Yamato" by Janusz Skulski. It has everything a modeller needs in it.

That is a BIG puppy! It'll be interesting how long it takes you to complete her... I guess much will depend on what kind of detailing you undertake. Good luck with it and remember to post pics!

Hi Guys, my wife came home yesterday with a nice little present for me..

I model most things, and I would say I am a better than average modeler.. But when it comes to ships, I freeze with fright.. I have only modeled a small 1/800 Enterprise, and the small Yamato.. Not very well either I must say.. But the desire has always been there to do a big one...

Anyways, my wife always listened to me wanting to build a large Yamato one day to display in our entry... But as she has a model phobia, and runs when I talk about models, I never thought I would ever see the day that I would get a present like this from her...

Well she took our daughter to Toys R Us to get her some things, and as she puts it "doesnt know why" but passed through the model section.. As she passed through, she noticed a massive box, and then looked closer.. It was the 1/250 Yamato..

She just knew that I would love it.. She also commented on seeing the 1/350 Tamiya one, but realised that I would want to have the biggest one she could find.. She also knew that if she came home and told me about this model, then I would leave skid marks in the kitchen as I headed for the car.. So she thought she would save the petrol and just get it..

Well when she walked in the door with this thing, she just looked at me, and said"happy birthday".. It was my birthday last Saturday... My wife and daughter took me out for lunch for my birthday, so I was happy with that.. But to get another present was a nice treat..

Anyways, I wont be starting it for a bit, but does anyone have advice or info that they may be able to share on this subject.. If you have modeled the Yamato in other scales, I would still be very much interested in hearing from you.. Also, any reference sites that you know of would also be appreciated!.. I still cant get over the size of this thing. Its over 1m long.. And its just the right size for our entry!
