If you are interested in obtaining H-P Models in the US they are available from Pacific Front Hobbies in Roseburg Oregon. Go to www.Pacificfront.com. They have a huge selection of ship models and they are very knowledgable in the hobby. H-P is also available directly from their site in Germany or from NNT Models in Germany. Before buying you may wish to consult the reviews of the ships you are thinking of from the model review sections on SteelNavy.com, Modelwarships.com or the Rajens Kit list on line. WS

Thanks, I'll check those out. It's definately a down the road kind of thing since I haven't built a ship model in 20 years so I'd want to start small, but I think it would be a neat diorama. Hoga fought fires on the Arizona and helped beach the Vestal too so I guess I have some easier options.

From the info provided by EdGrune, I only wonder if that means that the cruisers had stripes on their forward turrets, but a solid color on their aftermost turret to match their air section?  That is the way it reads to me.

Different shapes were used...

A very colorful moment in time, and shortlived.

I am still not sure what "different shapes" refers to - the first thing it made me think of was the different lozenge and other assorted shapes on the tails of carrier aircraft later in the war.

But then I wondered if it referred to different shaped stripes - such as straight across, diagonal, or inverted-v types of stripes.

I really wish my eyes weren't this bad - I look at photos where people say you can tell the different colors from the shading, and I can barely see the shading at all!

I believe horizontal and verticle stripes were used.
