. . .  so I entered it into the monthly contest. Although it did not take the theme award, it did place 3rd in the Master Division.

Thanks for looking.

Congratulations!

I just found this thread now and will be go through every page after this post.

I hope you find 'Real Space' on your shelf for this one! MusicTwoThumpsSplashMusic

One final note to my Gemini Spacecraft build story. This last weekend was the meeting for our IPMS Chapter and the theme for the contest this month was"Go Big", 1/32 and larger scale kits. Well this was a natural for me, so I entered it into the monthly contest. Although it did not take the theme award, it did place 3rd in the Master Division.

Thanks for looking.

Hey Stik...  That is gorgeous.  You did an awesome job.  You should be proud of that build.  It is one to keep on display for sure.  I love all the detail that you did. It brings back memories of the space program.

Nice job Stick!  If you don't want to use paper, Real Space models does a resin kit of the Agena Docking Target as well as a set to update the kit to the flight versions.  I've got several of their sets and they are worth the money.

Now THAT would be too cool! I would love to see a kit of the "Angry Alligator" and the standard proper Agena to go with this kit. Thank you for looking in here SG!

Stik,

Beautiful rendition of a classic kit.  I first built one of these back in 1968-69 (and still have it, tho in pieces).

Sure brings back a lot of memories.  Thanks!

Thank you cb, I am glad that you like this build.

So after a bit over four weeks of not so constant effort, I am calling this one done. This afternoon I finished up all the final touches- gluing on clear parts after a final airbrushed coat of Humbrol Satin Clear Coat, painting up the Astronauts helmets, then gluing them in in their seats, and lastly painting in the ablative coating in the manuevering nozzles.

a close up of Astronaut John Young (my close up shot of Gus did not come out so well)

some of the beautiful molded on exterior surface detailing

and on the kit display stand

Thanks for looking in folks!

After repeated applications of Solvaset, I think this is as good as I will get with the decals over the corrugations

Not prefect, but good enough.

I also painted the manuevering thruster nozzles on the Retrograde and Equipment sections based upon photos. I still need to paint their centers. But that will be after I airbrush on the final clear coat tomorrow
