Cockpit for F7U Cutlass
Posted by UnderdogF7U on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 8:33 PM

I don't know why, other than I think it is a unique, even beautiful aircraft, and Wally Schirra piloted one, but a purchased a Lindberg 1/48 scale F7U Cutlass, (gutless, ensign killer etc.)  Actually, it seems that it has good fit and will go together quite well, but its very simple.  I'm a fairly accomplished automotive modeler, but a beginner with planes.  I do want to detail it substantially, mainly along the way of adding an actual cockpit! with seat, adding some appropriate ordinance and a proper paint and graphic scene of an actual inservice unit and not one of the 2 Blue Angels planes of which the kit is one.

Any tips anyone has would be greatly appreciated either for scrathbuilding the items and or other donor kits that would contain usable items.  I've got an F11F Lindberg that I suppose I could raid for these parts and some decals, if they would work.  I am adept likely at probably painting other markings on ;its a kind of specialty of mine with 1/24,25 race cars.  But I don't necessarily want to do this and  I don't necessarily want to cannibalize the F11F either.

So, heeeeeelllllp.  Standing by and thanking you in advance.

Looks like you are going to have to scratchbuild the cockpit. Here's a link to help with that. Here's a pic of the seat. You could probably get by with a T33 or F80 seat available from Squadron. I'd check there for an approximate control panel.

Hello,

Wow, these photos are great.  Thats the most help I've gotten so far.  Anything you ever need from me in my area of expertise, let me know.  Like your quote too.  I think I'm going to rotate mine .  Here's todays :

Glad I could help. (Google is your friend.)

The quote is from the Red Green Show, a Canadian import broadcast on PBS.

Its haphazard on pubic TV but I watch whenever I can.  We love the Red Green show.

I've collected a lot of exterior photos from google but nothing like these photos so thanks again.
