I am still struggling with my first aircraft, an F15E and have looked at lot of pictures of models and craft in the air on the F15E website. The kit calls for silver on the aft sections and I have done that and it looks good. But I also see on some pictures as well as on aircraft in the air that have gone a while that there becomes a golden hue, especially on the undercarriage.

I would like to show that effect but don't know how to do it without losing the silvery sheen. Is there a gold wash that I should use? I deal pretty much only in acrylics.

Cheers, Jake

Jake,

From the photo, it appears that the builder used some oversprays to obtain that burnt metal look.  This would probably be easiest to acheive with some Alclad II shades, but those are lacquers and require some different materials to use.

If you are using acrylics, I would recommend trying some Talon acrylics.  They are available from Hawkeye's Hobbies.  The owner of the company is a frequent visitor to this site, and he may be able to help you more.  HTH! Thumbs Up [tup]
