Mr. Surfacer 1500

I use it in both black and gray and it is very fine! I thin it around 1:1 with Mr. Leveling Thinner and get great coverage with hardly any surface detail obscurred.

You're talking about airbrushing it on as a primer, correct?  You could use 1200 or 1500 as a primer and be fine.  Neither will fill in fine details.  Heck, you could airbrush 500 and still be fine really.

1200 is the best primer I've ever used.  I cut mine with 1/1 Leveling thinner and it works like a charm.  You should have no worries about losing any detail.

Is Mr. Color leveling thinner the right one to use? I usually just use lacquer thinner.

Lacquer is fine, I believe that is basically what Mr. Leveling thinner is.

I would use the Mr Color Leveling Thinner, as it is compatible with Mr Surfacer and there is no worrying about possible unusual or faulty  reactions on or to your model.  After all if you are going to the trouble to use 1500 primer why go into the unknown, on it now?  

There is a noticeable difference between using the Mr Leveling thinner and plain old lacquer thinner.  Mr. Color paints work really well with their own thinners.

Thanks guys. I ordered some and some Mr color leveling thinnner. I wasnt sure if it was a "Mr color" thinner or if there was a specific "Mr surface" thinner....haha

The Levelling thinner incorporates a retarder, which gives the paint more time to flatten out (hence the term "levelling") to give a smoother finish.

So I played around with the 1500 lasr night. This stufd is amazing compared to the 1200 but it might all come down to using the leveling thinner vs lacquer thinner that I was previously using.

Hello all I just came across this post. I have never used ghese products but I see there being mentioned just about every where involving models.
What is this product for. I hear being used as puddy for filling large seems to a heavy primer filling lite inpefections.
So what is it.?
And what should I start with. ?

Hey John, Thanks for the thread on Mr. Surfacer 1500. I've been curious about it's use and effectiveness myself. Really good info. I use 1200 straight out of the rattle can and absolutely love the stuff. I have also never encountered any issues with it filling in fine details though. Thanks again.

I see for sale Mr.Primer Surfacer 1000, and also Mr. Surfacer 1000. Which one is which?

Blackdog: I don't know the technical description of the Mr. Surfacer products but in my own laymans terms, they are what happens when a primer and a liquid putty get together and have a baby. The products have some sort of particles suspended in them. This is the liquid putty part. The higher the number the finer the particles. I've used the 500 for seam fillers when the seams are thin. Once dried the products all sand very nicely. They are all lacquer based and add a nice bite for less aggressive paints to adhere to. This is the primer part. I used to use 1200 as my primer but I really like the 1500, but again it could be the thinner working better than the home depot lacquer thinner I was using.

There was a great article in FSM magazine a while ago about the uses of mr. Surfacer products. If someone has a better explanation please share.

I am interesting in trying the Mr.Surfacer line, but I am having difficulty finding someone who stocks the entire line-ScaleHobbyist has a few items & Sprue Brothers has a few more. My question: does anyone know of an outlet that carries the line, with both the primers & the leveling thinners?

Pardon my ignorance/stupidity, but I didn't go deep enough into the Sprue Brothers catalog-they DO have the entire line of Gunze/Sanyo products-my error.

Haha no worries. I was gonna reply that they have all the products but in different categories. I thought it didnt make sense as well.
