Omni 4000
Posted by MusicCity on Monday, June 14, 2004 12:56 PM
I ordered an Omni 4000 today to supplement (or perhaps ultimately replace) my Omni 3000. If I don't like it, it's all MikeV's fault Wink [;)] Just kidding Mike. I know I'll like it, I already like my 3000.

Also, if anyone was planning on ordering one from Dixie Art you might wait a few days. They had one in stock and I got it Cool [8D]

Nice! I bought an Omni 4000 way back in February or something and just set it up with a giant industrial compressor since I'm too cheap to buy a hobby one. The airbrush is absolutely awesome...no problems with it yet.

I know I'll love it. As I said, I have a 3000 but I got pretty frustrated painting the camo on my F-105. I was spraying at about 7 psi or so (the gauge was barely even fliskering Smile [:)]) and it would spray and quit, and spray and quit and spray and quit. Since the 3000 is siphon feed and the 4000 gravity feed, I'm sure that the 4000 will spray better at very low pressures.

I hope you like it Scott. It is a nice airbrush and you can swap parts between your 3000 and the 4000. Thumbs Up [tup]

I received my new toys from UPS today so I have some more playing to do myself. Big Smile [:D]
I now have a new Badger 100LG and a Sotar 2020-2 along with a new Badger Million Air silent compressor. Wink [;)]
It's Christmas in June for me.

I can see the interview now ...

Interviewer: Mike, just exactly how did you get so wealthy?
MikeV: Well, Stan, it's like this. When I was young I started collecting all these airbrushes. With inflation and everything, they are worth about 1,000 times what they used to be so I just sell a couple off every month or so Approve [^]

Just kidding, Mike. Glad you got some new toys to play with. Looking forward to hearing how you like them and how they compare to the others.

Thanks for the laugh Scott. That was great. Laugh [(-D]

I will let you know what I find out with these new toys soon enough.
These are the first fine detail airbrushes I have owned so it is going to be interesting trying them out.
The Badger 100LG is in the same class with the Iwata HP-B, HP-C and the others like them. The Sotar 2020 is in the same class with the Iwata Micron which is for really fine lines with the proper mediums.
It should be fun. Wink [;)]

I thought about the 100LG since it was also one you had recommended. I also considered the 360 again, even though it has a small paint cup. I even thought about an Iwata HP-C, but not for long since I didn't want to go backwards Wink [;)] What decided it for me is that since I spray mostly acrylics and they tend to dry out so fast, I felt that a cover on the pain cup was important. Since the 4000 appears to come with one, I went with that one.

I now have 10 airbrushes and my wife says I don't need anymore. Big Smile [:D]
I am trying Chris, I really am. I want to finish this F-15E and the A-1H so I can get started on the Hasegawa 1/48 F-16 Tiger Meet that I got the other day.
That is going to look very cool. Cool [8D]

Congratulations Chris, you have reached airbrush contentment.
That is something I have yet to attain. Wink [;)]
There really are no more airbrushes that I need as I have all bases covered with the ones that I have now. I don't have any single-action models but I really don't want or need one anyhow. Maybe I need a Badger spray gun now as I may build that 1/48 Italeri AC-130 someday. Laugh [(-D]

Hmmm I seemed to be the old fart who went to bed Zzz [zzz]Zzz [zzz]. I imagine once my own work schedule gets back to norm I will have several airbrushes, thats why I am telling my wife now how each one has a purpose and i need lots of them to do lots of different things. But, I know my wife and she'll figure it out like everything else and put the cubosh on it...hopefully after I get my Iwata and badger (or is it Badger and Iwata).

uhhhhhhh......ahhhhhhh!!! my favorite one of the group is on the bottom right!!Wink [;)] hey, is that a preset deal on the 100? i thought i would use the home made preset handle on my iwata but i find it totally useless in model painting. nice array of brushes mike. the sotar looks so cheap looking though!! its seems they would kinda spruce it up like the rest of their brushes. anyway, it seems that you have some fun to be had so i'll leave you be. later.

Do you mean in front of the trigger? Yes that is a preset.
I don't really like them either as they are more suited to illustration work I think.

They did it all in black to look different I guess. It feels nice and the needle is real sharp and tapered so I can see why they spray so fine. The micrometer needle adjustment is pretty cool too in that it limits the rearward movement of the trigger to 1/1000" with each marking on the barrel.
This one has the white needle which is the medium version as that is more suitable for modeling. I can't wait to try it out. Maybe I can get good enough to paint that 1/48 scale F-16 "Tiger Meet" tail freehanded? Laugh [(-D]
