If I start an airbrush company, I'm gonna name it Beaver, and the airbrush models will be named Salty Dog 1337-9 and the Mike-V 1337-5.

Oh it's going to be made of plastic, have an "ergonomic shape" and use plastic needles. must be returned to the factory for tune ups (including needle swaps, nozzle swaps, airhose attachments, etc. non-postage paid)

I was in 84 - 94, Hospital Corpsman, did two Med Cruises on the Guam LPH-9 and the Austin LPD-4. Same here, I am happy I got out but will never regret the direction it gave me. If I had gone to college straight out of HS I would have majored in beer and minored in women. Cool [8D] Ironically my user name is a spin off of that too... it's the login I was assigned for the hospital computer system at NNMC Bethesda.

Ok I think I will have to get into this airbrush manufacture gig here...

My airbrush will be called the Cri-lon 9000. It will have a rolled steel cylindrical body, and an ergonomic, ridged plastic trigger. It will come with it's own enclosed air supply. And best of all it's conveniently disposable, eliminating all messy clean up!

Since I am making it so easy on everyone to paint a model... I think I will start the bidding on this item at $40. Since you guys are so great, for today only, I'll even throw in a spiffy gloss plastic cover for the nozzle assembly, which is also childproof as you have to use a screwdriver to wedge it open.

no, it disolves in acrylic, and lacquor, but the paint cup can only holds nobs brand paint. if you try anything else, you are breaking your warrenty. Oh and nobs brand paint is relabled tamiya with a new bottle and retails at $40 each for a 1/3 ounce.

Well I got it, and I wish I had begin reading this forum a long time ago... (that's what gave me the bug to get a new one... ) I took that bad-boy home and jumped right out of the Xterra and ran for the house... after carefully ripping the package open and hooking it up to my compressor it was like a dream come true....

Smooth even coverage, trigger soft as can be... even went down on the pressure and played with some detail lines... Shock [:O] WOW!

I can't wait to go order some more kits now haha...

I basically listened to a few of the main airbursh guys on here:

MikeV - the airbrush is just a tool

SaltyDog - IWATA!!! (errr... actually it was his unbiased post on the different brushes.)

Anyway I just plain decided to go down and see which one felt good in my hand.. nice lady even let me hook a demo up to a compressor and play with it a little...

Oh... and sorry, I had to pass on the Wood-tek Azbak. I didn't wanna switch compressors for something that could provide it a min of 45psi @ 120 cfm.

ALL RIIIIIGHT THO9900!!!! it is very nice to be able to hold an airbrush in your hand before the purchase, and even use one!! i didn't have that luxury, but i finally arrived at the one that is best suited for me. so, which Iwata model did you end up with? later.

LOL!!! I was waiting for that, that's why I baited it by not saying which one in my last post.

Actually I went out looking for the Paasche VL or MIL and the Iwata Eclipse.

The only Paasche I found was a VL that still had paint in the siphon tube from whatever loser decided he couldnt airbrush and took it back.

The only Iwata's I could find were the BCS variety, even on dixieart! ---edit--- I just looked back and I didn't scroll down far enough, that's ok.. the price they were on Dixiart would have put them out of my range on the open market anyway.

Well I went to another store and lo and behold they had about 4 different Badger styles and 1 Iwata... sad luck it was also a BCS. I looked at the 150, the Crescendo and the Anthem. I didn't want to pay the extra for a 150 in a wooden box, so asked to play with the other two. I liked the Anthem but the Crescendo just felt right in my hands. Hooked it up to a compressor so I could feel what the trigger was like under pressure and I was sold. I went ahead and got the set with the hose etc... 3 needles, extra paint jars (gonna need the #5 needle for when I open up my all over, full body airbrush tanning salon. <grin> I saw a big jug of the solution in there and started getting ideas) She gave it to me at a discount so I only paid 10 bucks more than if I got it from dixieart.

I think this will be a good learning brush and become a more advanced brush once I get it down... after spraying this one everything I learned on the Aztek went down the tubes. IMHO this is a much nicer brush... I haven't put the Iwata idea aside, in fact I have a feeling down the road a gravity fed might be in my future for some ideas I have on detailing planes...

For now though I can enjoy a REAL brush for a change!

wow the crescendo is a big fatty. I don't have one, but I've seen it in person. The price tag on that 175-7 set at Michael's art store near me is $137. I'm glad you got something you like (without paying way too much for it).

Tom,

Congratulations on a good choice.
That airbrush will not only paint pretty fine lines it will also put out more paint than any airbrush out there which may come in handy if you go with the Badger tanning solution you alluded to. Wink [;)]

Chris,

Too bad he didn't get an airbrush from the dark side. Better luck next time buddy. Black Eye [B)] Big Smile [:D] Wink [;)]

Oh yeah, speaking of that Mike, you can just send that $100 dollars you said you'd give me if I didn't get the Iwata to my pay-pal account. Wink [;)]Laugh [(-D]

yeah it is... and actually thats's where I ended up getting it... the lady told me she would give it to me for 79.99, the dixie art price was 69.99 so I figured the 10 bux was worth it in case something was wrong I could come exchange it right away instead of shipping etc..

For me it seemed easier to control since it is bigger, I could just move my fingers slightly and it went where I wanted it to. I have bigger hands so for an all around brush I wanted something comfortable. detail work I don't think will be an issue if I go with a slim one later, but for day in day out work I think I got the right one.

And that's one thing I noticed when I played with it at home Mike... the feeling if I cranked up the flow a little and pulled way back on that trigger, it might be like Noah's flood. Which might come in handy for another thing I might get into (no not the tanning Wink [;)]) my neighbor is a car mechanic and he has people coming to him all the time asking him what the best paint is to paint on windows because they dont want to use shoe polish to put their kids name and soccer team on the car etc... they wanted something a little less tacky, that looks neater. (yeah he is a Mercedes mechanic, snobby customers) I was thinking of doing some of that type of thing "Casey #34, Tiger Soccer Team" etc... He was even saying he would refer people from the shop ot me... just an idea I might go with. Back in the day I had a single action badger I lettered a few bands' drum heads with... I guess this would be kinda the same.
