Testor's Dullcoat over acrylic
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, August 1, 2005 9:46 AM
I just bought a can of Testor's Dullcoat to seal/protect my model. Its a 1/350 USS Fletcher. It was my first time using photoetch and there are ALOT of shiny globs from excesss CA glue. I also have 4 patches of gloss from future where my decals went. On the model I used tamiya spray paint, tamiya acrylic colors, Floquil acrylic colors, and Gunze Sangyo Aqueuos acrylic colors. If I put the Dull coat on in light coats will it mess up the underlying paint?

I would spray the whole model with future, let it dry, then dullcote.

It won't as long as the paint has had a full 24 hours to cure. If you are like me and don't like to use CA for photo etch, then don't. I use Testors Wood and Metal cement. It creates stronger bonds than CA, allows working time, and won't fog. The only bad thing about it is that it can get stringy. I haven't worked with it in awhile, but I think a drop of thinner down the tube hole will keep it from getting stringy.
