Sounds like your compressor is on it's last legs. The same thing
happens with my el cheapo harbor freight model. It just hums when I
turn it on. Usually happens when its getting too hot. I have
found that if you open up the air flow and turn the compressor on and
off and on etc., it will eventually start up. It's almost like the
motor is not
strong enough to get enough momentum to start the piston action. By
opening up the air flow, the piston has less "work" to get going.
Disclaimer: This is pure "cause and effect" speculation on my part...but it hasn't failed yet.
Did
you use this compressor a lot? They do, eventuallly, wear out.
