IWATA REVOLUTION.
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 17, 2005 1:48 AM
Hello, I just bought a Iwata revolution cr gravity fed airbrush. I would like to see what all of you think about this airbrush and the possibilities that it presents. I am looking forward to all of your comments. Thank's. Lonnie.

Lonnie - I have the HP-CR too and love it.  It took a little getting used to at first for me because I went from siphon fed to the CR gravity fed.  Once I practiced a little it really is a handy airbrush.  So far it has been able to tackle about anything.  It can do detail, moderate coverage, acrylics, enamels and lacquers like AlcladII, and does will with Future as well.  I still use my Badger 175 for large coverage with acrylics, but I am trying to get this down with the HP-CR as well.

You should be able to do anything from moderately detailed squiggle camo like the Luftwaffe used to single color paint on larger things like autos and armor.  And anything in between!

Good luck to you!

Hello, I want to thank you for your reply and time. I am glad that this airbrush can do all the things that you have said it can do. If it is capable of all these things,  then I have found the airbrush that I have been looking for. I want to thank you again for all of your time. Lonnie.

Lonnie - just remember it's still going to take some proctice to learn it.  But I think this airbrush will make you happy.  The second thing I did when I got mine was primer up an empty gallon water jug and go to town practicing all over coverage, then fine lines etc...

The first thing I did, of course, was paint a model as soon as I got home from the store with it! Wink [;)]

I had been using a Paasche Millenium brush for 18 months and was really struggling with it. I couldn't get any fine lines on 1/35" armour.

I bought the Revolution 2 weeks ago and the first time I used it I was able to get a fine line on 1/48' armour and it uses less paint!

I could kick myself for all those models that I didn't get up to scratch because of the poor (imho) airbrush I was using.

The Iwata is great and worth every penny.

Great airbrush choice!  In fact the Revolution is all I use nowadays.  I've owned just about all the most popular airbrushes from such brands including, but not limited to: Badgers, Paasches, Iwata, Binks Wren, Aztek, etc.  I have settled on the Revolution HP-CR, it has been able to do it all for my 1/72nd scale modern jets!

Here, I use the Iwata Revolution to airbrush a 1/72nd scale LGB for an F-14 Kit.

I just got one this fall, and I have only used it a couple of times, but so far, so good.  I had been using a Badger 350, and also an Anthem 155.  For some reason I never got the 155 to perform quite as well as I wanted, though I may not have known what I was doing.  I don't really have the patience to perfect my technique to the same degree as some of the bonafide artists on this forum.  That's where the Iwata really helped.

The Iwata fired up beautifully the first time I tried it, and I could paint very fine lines with only 10-15 minutes of practice.  Gravity feed vs siphon feed makes a big difference for me.  I turned the air pressure down low and it worked like a charm.  Hey, it gives me confidence to try something challenging like some German WWII camo.

Good luck with your Iwata.

I have an Anthem 155 as well and after a learning curve it did pretty good.   The Iwata does better, not a comparison between the two because they are different types of brushes, but I agree... gravity fed did the job for me!

First, I would like to thank each and every one of you who replyed to my post, I really do find all of the information and advice helpful. Also all of the experience all of you have had with your Iwata Revolution is also very helpful and encouraging, it really makes the transaction that I will be makeing from the spray cans that I have used for so long to this airbrush so much more pleasant. I am very greatful for all of the help that all of you have taken time out to help me into the world of airbrushing. I hope one day I will be able to return the help to someone that is makeing the transaction for the first time into this great realm of airbrushing. I am looking forward to being the best I can be with this new hobby tool. Thank's again guys. Have a very merry X-MAS and a even better New Year. Lonnie.Big Smile [:D]
