Acrylic paint over Future
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 31, 2006 11:07 AM
I'd really rather not have to read through all these pages to find the anser to my question (it's obviously there somewhere) but being somewhat of a novice, can you paint over a coat of Future?  And if so, will it last?  I'm talking acrylic flat, Tamiya.

I do it on every windscreen and canopy, no problems yet.

This should help with all your Future questions

I've been using Future  for the past few months & have yet had a problem with it. Just make sure it's dry /cured (2 days should do it) before painting over it.

Do you really have to wait that long for it to dry/cure?

I certainly don't wait that long, maybe a few hours if I applied it in the morning or overnight if in the evening.  The way I figure, if you're able to mop it onto a floor and walk on it after an hour or two, it ought to be good enough to paint or decal upon after few hours.

It's probably fine after a couple of hours, but I usually wait until the next day to do anything with it, especially masking.

Ditto ... For acrylic over Future (which is nothing but clear acrylic) I might give it an hour if I'm in no hurry.  If I'm spraying enamel over Future I usually wait overnight.  If I'm spraying lacquer over Future I try to find another way to arrange things.

I usually do since I am fairly new to the world of Future. I just like to be sure. That's just me. Sure, you can walk on it after a couple of hours but, is it fully dry? I know with paint it can be dry on the outside yet, still wet on the inside. Just myMy 2 cents [2c]
