Help removing Clear Parts masking!!
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 7:18 AM

HELP!!

I used Testors Clear parts cement as a masking agent for the clear parts on my 1/350 Enterprise Refit and now after painting it doesn't want to come off.

Does anybody have any helpful tips on removing this stuff?

                               Thanks!

What paints did you use?

This stuff is not intended as a masking material.

Ross Martinek A little strangeness, now and then, is a good thing… Wink

If I understand this correctly, you used CEMENT as a mask? If you have used laquer based paint, I dont think you will be able to remove the paint. There are several true masking gels on the market, Clear Part Cement is not one of them my friend!

Is the "cement" white glue?  If it is, you may be able to soak it in Windex or something similar to loosen it, but I'm not sure.

Hi,

As I understand it, it is a form of white glue. I got this idea off of this message board. There was the suggestion to use Elmers as a masking agent (that it worked better than commercial liquid masks), and then several forum members suggested that Testors clear parts cement worked even better than Elmers.

The paints I used were Krylon Primer, Painters Touch Gloss White, And Tamiya Insignia White. I'm not sure if any of these were laquer based, but I don't believe so.

I'll try the windex, maybe that'll help.

                                  Thanks!
