Aside from the possibility of one of the kids mistaking a bottle of Tenax for apple juice or something, this is THE reason I set myself up in the garage. The one place in the house the wife could give a fig about, so long as they're room for her to park and move random crap from the house to. For example, the ratty old chair that she's been planning to restore one day for the last 6 years.

The Garage??? In Texas??? Man I hope you have a good A/C in there. If not you are now offically "The Man" in my book.

When I hear "the garage", my first thought is, "man, I hope you have a good heater in there!"

If you have small children, I suggest if you are looking at creating a new workbench you take a look at a computer cabinet armoire.

I had this old toolbox we used for mobility deployments. The doors supported the fold up desk and could be closed and LOCKED to keep my two very inquisitive boys away from things they shouldn't have or I didn't want them to have access to. For bulk storage you can always put stuff up high on a closet shelf.

I have...wait for it...a FAN!

But my modeling hours are usually about 10PM-1AM, so even in the dead of summer it's usually cooled down to at least 95 by then...also have the wife park in the driveway if she's out driving after dark. The absence of a burning hot engine block really cuts down on the heat.

Also picked up a bug zapper to deal with that bit of fun. Hoping to god it works...of course the second it arrives we get a cold snap and all the bugs go away...

My wife seems to have other ideas for the closet... Bang Head

You just have to beat her to the punch! If she gives you any guff, just beat her!!!Stick out tongue

Don't beat your wife.... not nice. But do move into the closet before she does. I did that with the whole house! So what if I sleep on the couch, I like it there!

I'm collecting dead bugs for a planned Chernobyl dio...gluing those extra eyes onto the flies is tough work though!

But really...our garage is one of those fake three car garages that has one double-depth bay. By bench is back in that area, and the zapper will be hanging up near (probably off of) the garage door. So there should hopefully be plenty of separation. But god the bugs are annoying. Right now it's crane flies bouncing off everything. In a few weeks it'll be junebugs, then crickets, moths, cicadas...ugh.

The other night I had a bird get stuck in the garage. That was fun.

I had a pigeon in my second floor "windows don't open" office a few years ago. Turned into quite the team-building experience shooing that thing back outside...

In that case...and seeing as it was your 299 (close enough to 229) consider yourself hearby awarded the illustrious HPRS award....wear it with pride!

I have all sorts of animal-indoors stories.

Last fall, had a massive cicada, easily the size of my hand, become obsessed with the lights in the garage. I usually don't care, but every time it bumped up against the lights, it sounded like someone whacking them with a baseball bat. Grabbed the broom - a cheap number with a plastic frame - and went after it. After several awkward swings, I connected with it, hard...and the broom shattered. The cicada was knocked back about 6 feet, then recovered and just kept flying.

Several years ago, the ad agency where I worked had a bat get inside. Of course it decided to set up shop in the media department, which is/was stocked with a great many attractive females who'd recently graduated from UT. The pandemonium was truly something to behold.

When I was a kid we had a bat in the house and my Dad, having had a couple of refreshing adult beverages, figured that bats are rats with wings and decided to shoot at it with Rat shot in a .22. Very interesting night watching that I assure you.Indifferent

This is by far the cleanest modeling space I have ever seen.

Here is my space. The paint shelf on the wall  is a bamboo drawer organizer, and the one under the right table was from a closing shop a friend gave me. My stash is there too.  Enjoy...or not.

Onr light question. I have a magifing clip-on lamp like the one on your bench, but my folding table, just like yours, is too thick for the clamp to work. How is yours clamped on?  I have mine clamped to a metal plate and that weighted with batteries from my drill.

My father was warehouse supervisor at a potash mine up here. They received shipments all hours of the day, and the lights at the loading dock attracted bugs & bats... They kept a tennis racket at the door to deal with the problem! Wink

There are several forms, the most common around here is Potassium Chloride - KCl. It's mined, reduced to granular form, Potasium separated from the Chloride. The Potassium then gets used mostly in fertilizers, some goes to other industrial uses. When you buy a bag of fertilizer, the third # in the description is potassium.

Canada is the biggest producer in the world. Geeked

Now, back to your regularly scheduled madness... Propeller

Mine is a cheapo magnifier from Harbour Freight. I am lucky that the bracket is thick enough but the glass is horrible and you have a quarter size area that will focus.

Tennis racket is better than equiping a gun with a silencer...but not as fun.

Potasium huh? Too bad Borat does not sing about Canada.Headphones

It's organized so that I can find things, but I do find the desk bridge (which I built) to be handy. The desk is an old one I inherited from my father; the shallow drawers up top keep paints, brushes, and tools. The larger drawers keep supplies, a few jars and bottles of spare parts, and an unfinished kit or two. I hafta say, this is just a corner of my man-cave. To the left , a large bookcase and to the right, two smaller ones. Behind the desk is the stash (two 6' x 4' x 1.5' shelves back to back, full). The entire man-cave is 20' x 40'.

Because the cave (aka basement) can get a bit chilly after long periods, I opened a satellite office:

The wife is tolerant, but wouldn't advise this mode of interior decorating. I DO like her a lot.......

Bow Down ...to those with clean, organized, dedicated workshops. Geez, I really need my own space!

For those of you who have wives who harass them about taking over the kitchen table or an area of the house....well, I am the wife and I have taken over the kitchen table and a good chunk of the house. lol!

I guess I can honestly say, my place is in the kitchen. Whistling

My workspace is a disaster. I have tools, supplies, brushes, paints, model kits, model horses.....*sigh*

What kitchen table??? What do you mean stoves are for cooking? With the vent-hood, a big drop cloth, and some side-boards I made up, it makes a fantastic spray-booth!
