I have a pair of Xuron cutters which I really love. Also have a cutter I purchased from Micro-Mark that are shape like a nail cutter.  These work very well when there is no room on the sprue to get the Xuron to make the cut.

I have the expensive Tamiya ones (74035) and they're hands down one of my best tool purchases so far. They cut sprue gates like butter and keep their edge really well as long as you treat them well. Just don't cut anything other than plastic with them because that will damage them.

I'm returning to the hobby after 25 years and one of my first purchases were these. I had alway used knives before. At frist I was hesitant on spending the money on them, but these are hands down the best thing I have every used and I would buy them again if the need ever arrises. They are really sharp and cut very close to the part so clean up is just a matter of light sanding. Highly recomended.
