“Robby has always been my favorite robot,” says Joel, who built Polar Lights’ 1/12 scale kit. He painted the body of the famous supporting character in the 1956 science fiction film “Forbidden Planet” with Dupli-Color automotive paint (“medium quasar metallic,” he says) and installed LEDs in the robot’s head and chest plate, threading the wires through the feet to a switch-equipped case holding three AA batteries in the base.
