Scale modeler since 1963. or started at around seven years old. Build interests run the gamut of anything that has an engine, but lately really enjoying building armor and scratch-build projects.
I am a Mechanical Engineer/Product Designer by profession, with about thirty years of complex 3D CAD design in surfaces and solid modeling packages. I also have CAM/CNC programing and machine operation thru five axis, and worked in the 3D printing industry known as rapid prototyping back in the day) since 1993. Also built multiple axis 3D scanners...basically had 3D printing systems, 3D scanners, full CNC and manual machine shops at my disposal for "projects". Also learned to build commercial quality silicon molds for epoxy/resin casting. All the toys for big boys!
Today, my oldest son and I work together on projects. He has a pretty nice Makerbot printer that he has upgraded with 3rd party parts, and together we design and build scale accessories for RC trucks and cars. I gave him one of my 3D scanners a while ago and he is learning how to use it.
For me I get to design up a scale model part and use his printer to build a near net shape I then take and finish it out into whatever I need. I scratchbuild build parts for my armor, aircraft. car and motorcycle projects. Lots of fun...
When I'm not modeling I am building custom fishing rods for friends and fly fishing in the Sierra's.
