A biography in internet ? Are you kidding?
O.k. what might be usefull for you: I restarted my interest of ships of age of sail about 2007, when my wife ("oh, the guy is or was married") did buy me the Revell Kit of the United States Frigate Constitution - the big one!
Funny fact: my wife did not know about my preference as kid for frigates. I did not like the big Victory - clumsy ship! ..I did not like the clippers .. too much similarity with steel ships.. As kid I would have allowed mankind only wood and wind-energy.
She did not really know that I visited Old Ironside at least 3 times when I was allowed to stay in Boston area for several month ("oh! That guy was in US!")
But due to the fact that I did not have time not room to really DO plastic model building.. and due to the fact that I feared painting I decided to investigate in the issue .. found some forum.. a lot of mad people doing extremly cool things with models .. and a lot of thrilling books, biographies, monographies, etc.
So here I am .. being here for several years now and following your intersting building logs.. hoping to find place and time to start my increasing collection of to be build plastic sailing ships.. Constitution in several scales.. the whaler Charles W. Morgan by Revell, a started Beagle, which I tried to re-work as a flush-decker (from which the basis for the kid is - the Bounty). Also La Flora from Lindbergh .. Heller Phenix 1/150 (which needs some rework!!!) and Glorieux (sistership of the beautiful Superbe).. well this should be sufficient for some years.
What does that tell you:
I am a very theoretical modeler .. have a certain knowledge about USS Constitution - and age of sail in general. Having no time (job, family.. I won´t tell you! ;-) ).. and not enough room for practial work .. but is obviously adicted to brain work. Changed my mind concerning the beauty of Clippers! .. but maybe just because I like their later appearance when they were hard working vessels fighting stroms and seas in the roaring 40ies .. I very much like the look of used and "living" models .. especially with plastic kits. But my pracital experience is very limited in last time .. and the wider one is decades in the past, when I was a kid and (tried to) build the 1/144 Cutty sark and a better 1/72 spanish galeon by Revell.
My Avatar is the USS President - from which I tried to learn for my USS Constitution. I very much love Evan´s (Force9´s) approach to combine modelbuilding with a deeper research - and to combine the existing knowledge of different sources to gain a more reliable picture of the issue.
