I started building models when I was about 7 years old. This was around 1963. My favorite was military aircraft, especially United States Air Force. I stopped building when I was about 14 years old.
Recently my father passed away and I was trying to think of a way to honor him. He had been the one that got me started into building models when I was a kid and he himself had built quite a few. Since my dad was in the U.S. Air Force for twenty years, I decided to build aircraft that he was associated with.
He was in the Air Force between 1954 and 1974. During that time he was a crew chief for the F-89J Scorpion, T-33 Shooting Star, F-100D Super Sabre, F-105D Thunderchief, RF-101C Voodoo, and the F-101B Voodoo. He then went on to become a flight engineer for the C-141A Starlifter and finally the C-5A Galaxy.
Model building has come a long way since when I built them as a kid. I am looking forward to acquiring and improving my skills as I build my dad’s aircraft!
