I love military modeling and have done so ever since I got a 1/48 Snap-Tite Monogram Tiger I as a kid. I built tons of Mongram 1/48 and 1/72 aircraft and 1/35 Tamiya stuff as a teen. Got very serious into 1/72 a/c in my first foray into "serious" modeling after college. Enjoyed the shows and clubs that whereever I lived. In 1995, moved back to my home state for work and attended a meeting of the IPMS club I used to be a member. They had a swap meet that night and I got the Tamiya 1/35 Jagdpanzer IV Lang. It hooked me back to military vehicles and it's been my main devotion ever since.
I build almost exclusively WW2 and Korean war subjects -- 1/35 but an occasional 1/48. I like unique vehicles and paint schemes. I'm not averse to scratchbuilding but have about a dozen ongoing projects at any time. I enjoy the research as much as the building & painting. My stash of books is probably worth more than my kits/aftermarket/tools/supplies. I've researched the heck out of Shermans, 8.8cm Flak guns and some other esoteric stuff.
I like writing for magazines -- the discipline required with deadlines and photos keeps things moving for me. My kid said I was not to buy any more kits without finishing ones I've started. This plus my concerted effort to shrink my stash has paid dividends.
I've been the President of AMPS since Jan 2012 and love seeing the organization flourish as we try to build community among AFV modelers throughout North America and beyond. I find the annual International Convention to be one of the best times of camaraderie for treadheads I've ever seen.
